There's nothing quite like a new fun power tool
I am terrified of chainsaws. I used one once and almost took off my leg. Well, probably not but that's the way it seemed.
Meanwhile I have been hiring a small jobs guy for our property who is notoriously unreliable. It's a running joke at my house. Is he coming back? No idea. Eventually, he does but rarely finishes the job. But he has a chainsaw so there you go.
I was talking to a neighbor who I had to rely on to get his tree out of the yard of another neighbor whose property I take care of and expressed my fear of chainsaws, realizing I sounded like a total wuss and related the conversation to my husband. If only they made them shorter, I said. To which he replied, "I think they do".
Why yes! Yes they do! 4 1/2 inches. Battery operated. Hand guard. It cuts up to 8 inches diameter.

Used my new toy for the first time today. So very happy. I can do anything now. I can even do one handed work so that I can hold onto the material I'm cutting. Beyond fun.

What do you use it for?

I am afraid of chainsaws as well but think I wouldn't be too bad with that.
I bought a reciprocating saw a couple of years ago and use it for all sorts of projects like cutting wood, metal and trees. It's far less scary and cuts through a lot.
Wow, I could have used one of those babies on some exposed roots a few days ago! 4 1/2 inches sounds tiny!

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

How cool...showing this one to my husband. Thanks!
I need that! I have those weed trees that are growing between my back fence and the neighbors garage. I'm not sure how to prevent them either. They are along my fence as well. I was just thinking earlier this week I need to buy a chainsaw! How cool I stumbled upon this! I've never used one and I do find them a little intimidating (being I cut each index finger nearly off in the kitchen in the last 5 years - one an immersion blender and the other a mandolin).
Well, I for one would not advise doing things one handed. With a chainsaw that's probably the best way to get cut. You have to remember it is still a spinning sawblade no matter the size. The big metal thing where you put your second hand is an emergency brake. It is designed for kick back which can and will happen. When it does it is extremely violent and not even the biggest of lumberjacks can stop it. When it happens, it is designed so that your second hand, the one holding on to that handle at the top will mash into that guard. The Guard applies an emergency brake to the chain stopping it before it can cut you. If you use that one handed the kick back can actually kick it and spin the blade around back into your arm, because trust me the human wrist can't stop that.
Please hold the chain saw properly for your own safety. They are designed to be held two handed for a purpose. It may seem small and harmless. If used properly they are as safe as any other saw. However used properly are the key words.
Watch this video, the guy goes through it kind of quickly but he covers the braking system on a chainsaw and how to use it.
