    They Coyotes are welcome here....

I was kind of surprised that this garden community welcome the coyotes because they keep the rabbits and other enemies of the garden in check. Makes sense. I also found it interesting that the expert states that their attack on dogs and casts is over exaggerated although there is nothing to back that up.

I'm sorry to say that that is not over exaggerated around here. In fact, they go after toddlers. When they run out of bunnies, etc, I wonder what they'll want to eat.

That's a great article, thanks for posting it. IN our rural village I'm sure it's true that the coyotes have enough small wildlife to control (and perhaps a country chicken) to not bother with the danger of trying for domestic cats and other small pets. It's one of the highlights of early nightfall here, to hear them singing, as they did last night. Coyotes sing, dogs just annoyingly bark.

Down here in the deep south it's open season on them much to my displeasure. We back up to farm land and occasionally see them in the evening but their very wary of people. Their opportunist so yeah if your letting your little fufu dog run around unsupervised your playing with fire. Sadly I know the ones behind my house have been hunted and killed probably the whole pack family. You wount hear any for a long time then you hear a few yipping when they hear a siren which I thinktis funny though. Southern folklore tradition runs deep and it's hard changing the mind set around here but one can be hopeful.

Having had my elderly lab torn to pieces by coyotes right in the yard. $5000.00 in vet bills and 4 nights of sleeping on the floor with him before he passed away. I have a little different outlook on the coyotes that are thick around our place. In the winter when I had to take Elle out during the night I carried a gun . Their "singing" was very threatening and they were extremely close to the house. Not a coyote fan.

Coyotes roam our mostly agricultural municipality and I don't doubt they come into town at night. Coyote hunters and their dog packs track down sightings and kill them . . . after a short time there is another sighting. My reading suggests that they are impossible to permanently eradicate. While troublesome individuals ought to be eradicated my feeling is live and let live . . . and take precautions.

I know someone who has a small farm with goats, chickens, ducks, and two Great Pyrenees. She grudgingly believes in live and let live.

I saw that. I believe the coyote body is being tested to be sure they have the right one, the culprit. And I guess for disease. The articles on that poor little boy, the ones I saw, did stress how incredibly rare a coyote attack on a human is.

Have you seen this one? Not to demean that poor little boy's experience but humans are still humans' own worst enemy. I think maybe we saw a coyote pup two days ago. Something was going down the trail ahead of us. Wondering if it was too big to be moving that way and alone in mid-May. It was cat sized but not moving like a cat.
