    Japanese Yew?

So we have two of these off of our front porch and we can't remember what they are.

They don't get berries and they don't lose needles in that it looks the same year round.

Yesterday we went to a couple of garden centers and were going to buy a couple of Japanese Yews and when I googled it says they are highly toxic to dogs? Is that what we have at the front of out house?

    Thanks Everyone!!

I can't see your needles that well but I think that's what we've had a few of in the past....Hinoki Cypress. Non toxic.

Take a sprig to your garden center and ask their opinion (or hold up to their shrubs and compare).

I think I have a couple of those that were in our yard when we bought the house, I did not plant them. I thought mine are dwarf Alberta spruce but I'm not certain. Your photo looks a lot like mine. I'm not at home right now to take a photo and since I don't know for sure what they are, it probably wouldn't help anyway. But cone shaped, very slow growing, don't drop their needles and are green all year describe mine, too.

I also have yews in my yard and they are clearly not the same things. The leaves/needles on my yews look just like the photo of yews in the ASPCA list of toxic plants for dogs. The yews grow much faster and require trimming at least yearly. My little Alberta spruces do not look like those at all. Mine don't look like Hinoki cypress needles either.

Thanks! I confirmed with a co-worker that knows his plants et al and he confirmed that it is an Alberta Spruce. He stated that it looked in really good shape and that it was good size.
    Thanks Everyone!!
