Hi, Barry ~ Thanks, we're OK. We're not in historic EC, rather snugged up next to Columbia. I see on our local forum that plenty of people "out here" are having flooded yards and basements. We're at the bottom of our cul-de-sac but our drainage is good...little run-off that crosses under our fence from next door empties into a storm drain in our back corner....water is flowing really good.

This is the second horrible flooding in historic EC in two years...State of Emergency declared....I can't imagine what the people there are feeling right now. There seems to be a lot of pride involved with the people who stayed after the first flooding...I wonder how many will be able to recover from this one, though.

Thank you for thinking of me....always so nice to be remembered.

Background: Bob somehow lost the inner tube (1" graduated into hundredths) from our rain gauge. I have one on order but meanwhile propped up a cheap plastic 6" tube on the lip of the outer rain gauge tube. I have no idea of how the water that accumulates in the outer tube would relate to any inner tube other than the official one.

The inner tube overflowed...we got at least 6" of rain yesterday. The outer tube had about 7 - 8 inches in it (couldn't put the top funnel thingy in place so both tubes got rain directly). I just dumped the outer tube...no way to accurately measure what that was. Even minus the 6" in the inner tube, that would have added a good bit to the measurement. Yikes.

I bumped into someone in the park this morning who said he'd heard the official Columbia rainfall was 7" and Ellicott City was 8".

We're definitely not going into Summer in a state of drought. (there's a lot of mulch sweeping/raking to be done on our property today) (the park I walk in had a lot of stream erosion and fallen trees in addition to water paths in places there never were before...and hidden shoreline)

It didn't even start raining until sometime around 4 in the afternoon and it was over by the time Bob took the pups out for their last walk around 10. Those six hours, though, were nothing but downpour and thunder.

Just ask my dogs about the thunder. You can tell their nerves are still trying to recover. They didn't want to stay in the basement this time (quieter) so it was just their calming collars and some relaxing music trying to keep up with the booms that shook the house. Not happy dogs.

I was over in Halethorpe at a trial Saturday, and I could see some pretty serious clouds/lightning off to the west. Was suprised that it was that bad. Glad you guys are ok!!!!

Well guess what kind of image that gave me. I already knew from reading your answer to Barry that you were ok. I do think I'd like to see a photo of you and Bob floating down the flood in your inner tube though. I know, it's serious for lots of people.

It was a real splurge....but our first one lasted about 30 years before getting too cloudy and losing one of the fins that kept it attached to the post (I used a bungee for that for years, though.) The present one was put up for the first time only about a month ago. (dangit, Bob)

This made me laugh....I didn't even think of "inner tube".
