What do you put through a chipper?

I did look this up online but I don't know if people define brush in the same way I do. Can I put vine type things or those nasty brambly things through a chipper? Or should I just spread them out and run them over with my mulching mower?

Incidentally, I ran over a set of snow goggles in my field with my riding mower today and it seemed to take that just fine. The goggles aren't doing so well though. Guess the neighbor kids were having fun when we didn't notice.

Any other thoughts on what can be put through a chipper would be appreciated.

Stuff should be dead and dry and caliper will depend on hp. Though actually, OH found some green wood chipped up easier. The manual should say. Ours does handle some green stuff though, like fresh cedar hedge clippings. Don't put through anything that is alive, invasive and might regenerate from little bits. Check on that vine in case it is one such. Ours bogged down a bit on a big pile of leaves that were a bit wet.

LOL, OH got a new chipper last Fall. It is a heftier motor so will handle more than about the one inch diameter our current one does. Even better, it was FREE. That's because it didn't work. Well, it works now and it does a good job. Come to think of it, the first one was a pretty good price too. A local guy won it in a raffle and because he had recently cut off his big toe using his lawn mower his wife said no way was she letting him keep the chipper. BE CAREFUL with the darn thing. WE never let Oban out when the chipper is running, for fear he'd stand in front of the out chute.

That was one of the top searches when I looked it up online.

While working in law enforcement years ago, I worked along with many members of the law enforcement community on a homicide where a perp had murdered his wife and put her through a wood chipper he had rented. He was a commercial airline pilot and almost got away with it. The forensic expertise Of Dr. Henry Lee and the hard work of many brought him to justice.

I remember that case! At the time a friend told his wife that she should be very nervous if a wood chipper shows up in the yard! She wasn't amused.

I second or third the BE CAREFUL. There are two things I will not allow my husband to have: 1. A motorcycle. 2. A wood chipper. At our old house, our next door neighbor was a fireman. He told us about a call where a guy was using a chipper and he used his foot to push a pile of brush in and well, that was the end of that. He went *through* the chipper. SO BE CAREFUL.
