Met the OH's Girlfriend for the First Time This Week

She and I were both guests at a Probus meeting and had to stand up and wave HI at everyone. She and the OH connected years ago at a genealogy meeting and then got together a couple of times so she could help him research his Scottish ancestors. LOL, I had a bit of fun at break time, going over to her table and introducing myself. OH and I have different last names so she didn't twig when I stood up earlier.

You didn't think this was funny? Ok, lady friend, since she's my age. She was smart, met OH at a public genealogy meeting but then met him on her own but in a coffee shop, smart thing to do with what is basically a strange man. Since then they have met at coffee shops and her husband went too, and then at her house. But never at our house. That's because her husband was very ill and not able to travel much but still, it gave me the opportunity to make jokes about OH meeting his "girlfriend." Her husband died last year, he was quite a bit older than her.

Ah. I would have put it in quotes to indicate tongue-in-cheek reference. I thought perhaps you were married to a cad. (and were a lot better natured about this sort of thing than I would be) Or maybe you'd forgotten the "ex-".

My stepfather always called our first Basenji "girlfriend". He never referred to her as his girlfriend...it was just a term of endearment call name. Kinda like when I refer to Dan as my handsome man, or my best fella. I can still hear Dad saying, "Come on up here, girlfriend" when he invited Sandy up on to the couch where my mother forbade her to go. Mom never called her girlfriend, either. And Sandy started being allowed up on the couch...Mom knew when she was beat.

Yes, OH is Other Half. That's what they used on another dog forum I used to visit. They liked it because it provided some gender neutrality for the poster. It does not provide that for the person it's used to represent though, does anyone know why?

I don't like abbreviations but this is one I'd consider....not for "other half" but for "odd husband".
