LOL, the old story, the leftover piece.
Our riding mower's deck belt snapped. It's old and I beat it up. We decided to take care of it ourselves. Between getting the belt, removing the deck and figuring out the belt looping which did not correspond to anything we found on the internet (it's old) we thought we had finished after about four hours total spent. We probably took apart more than we should have. Regardless, we were pretty proud of ourselves.
Then I found a nut on the ground. We couldn't figure it out for the life of us. Finally I got the bright idea to turn the deck over and see if there was anything on the bottom. The blades were in really bad shape but the real problem was that the connectors are so corroded that the deck is effectively shot.
Lesson learned. Examine the entire piece before bothering with the rest of it. On the positive side, I've been eyeing a fuel injection model with a much more powerful engine that has a narrower deck and is more maneuverable. We're just going to leave the deck off the old one and use it to plow our driveway and haul stuff around.

Dunno if you can wait, but there should be a lot of Labor day sales especially mowers and things as they want to get rid of lawn care inventory. That's only a couple weeks away.
