      Wild Kingdom

I've had this big, ugly spider living on the corner of my deck near the doors for most of the summer. He/she would be gone during the day and there would only be traces of the web. Every evening once it was dark he'd be back out there building a new web, and doing what spiders do I suppose. I'd check on him when I took the dogs out for there last potty break of the day.

Well a couple nights ago I go out and he's not there. Same the next night. Two nights ago I see this frog on top of the window near where the spider built his web. He doesn't look like the toads I normally see in the yard, he's a much lighter green. I've also noticed a few of the other smaller sized spiders I normally see around the deck have gone missing. Last night I saw this frog for the second time. Something tells me he's making meals out of the spiders.

I know it's hard to tell the actually sizes, but the spider above was about half the size of that frog.

Cool spider but I guarantee you I would have a tennis racket out for that one! I don't like spiders and snakes as the old Jim Stafford song goes.

Not a toad, but a tree frog. Yes, they do love spiders as a main meal.

I knew he was a frog, just not sure what kind. Have seen many toads over the years, but this was the first time I've seen a frog in the yard, and we've lived here for almost 20 years.

Awww, he's so cute, the tree toad. Spiders are interesting, not cute.

When I first read through your note I thought you said you had a big, ugly spider living on the corner of your DESK. I was thinking, holy *expletive*, why didn't you get it out of there? Once I reread it, I calmed down. I tried to let wildlife be wildlife as well. Cute, for a frog.

The coloration on the spider is really elegant. But I like the frog better.

As long as said spider keep his/her distance from the door, live and let live. Guess the toad did not have the same motto.

Hmmmm, I spray for spiders now, but have bullfrogs living out in my irrigation delivery that are enough for me when they happen to be in my screen when cleaning at night! EEEEEKKKKKKKK. Still, I can deal w/ them over rattlers...
