San Marzano - my new favorite tomato plant.

Wow! I took ten pounds off my two plants just today. My husband loves them raw. They are super sweet. I planted them originally because they're the tomato of choice for pasta sauce and I wanted organic which are expensive. I haven't even seen them fresh in the grocery store. So tired of reading recipes that say, "2 pounds of tomatoes, preferably San Marzanos". Really? Where? In a can. Well, apparently we're a happy zone for these guys. No more beefsteaks for us. I'm going at that with a vengeance next year. Yummm.

They're the ones in the bowl.

Edited to say: It keeps saying that the upload failed. Not sure why. Here's link on them:

I always thought San Marzanos had to be from Italy. I've bought them in cans and will need to look for fresh.

I found the seeds online at seedsnow. No problem to grow.

I have grown them here and one year had half Roma, half San Marzano in my garden, couldn't tell the difference. But I did mix them up in cooked things so maybe I should have tried to use them separately.
