Those in the path of Florence, PLEASE evacuate. It's going to be a beast and and needs to be taken very seriously. It's already a Cat 4 storm, and it could potentially ramp up to a Cat 5, which would be catastrophic. If anyone needs a place to escape to, I live just SW of Atlanta, GA. Our house isn't huge, but we have room to sleep 6 extra people and an infant (2 queen beds, a crib, and a trundle bed), and we have a small, but fenced in back yard. They are welcome in the house, too, as long as they are potty trained and get along with other dogs, including small dogs. I have a couple of extra crates for large dogs, as well as a couple of 4 foot x-pens, if needed. No cats, please. I am sincere in this offer. If you need a place to go, please PM me.

I hope everyone stays safe. I am very worried about my beloved Outer Banks. Specifically Hatteras Island. Mike's weather page is a great page to visit. All sources in one spot. He also provides commentary. I work in supply chain and logistics and we supply 100s of hospitals with oxygen for their main supply. Quite the frenzy right now with relocating patients.

Safe wishes for all in her path.

My sister and her family (7 month old niece) live in Raleigh and I'm very worried about them! I want them to get in the car now and drive to stay with us in Texas. My dad lives in Wilmington, but luckily spends his summers in Maine and is still up there.

Hope all remain safe that are in the path of Florence. I can't imagine the preparation, anxiety and stress.

Please stay safe. I am so glad I got out for Harvey. I know Im far but my home is open to anyone that needs a place to stay.

Some things I have done hurricane prep. I freeze bottled water in my freezer in case power goes out it keeps things frozen for a couple days. Please make sure you have all your medications for you and your fur kids in water resistant bags enough for 7 days. If you stay and get stuck please make sure you are mobil enough to get to your attic and that you have an ax to break through it.

    Please stay safe

Thanks everyone for commenting, giving best wishes, offering help.

It's down to the nitty gritty. If people have not already done so, they should be rushing their plans - whether to hunker down or to go - to completion tonight or early tomorrow morning.

Many AirBnB hosts in the southeast US are offering their accommodation to evacuees at no charge. Feel free to share the link where appropriate.

Indeed. I guess kimbersmom has gotten a little rain, and Barry is on the far fringe. Don't know if we have any members in NC/SC.

We're in Ft. Mill, SC about 25 miles below Charlotte. This storm is moving so slowly that wind gusts weren't nearly what they said they were going to be but the rain! OMG. The rain. I complained and complained all summer long because it rained only a handful of times. Our ground was so dry that we lost shrubs, have little to no grass and the ground was cracked everywhere. So all this rain, at least where we are, is being absorbed as well as possible. But this storm is not moving. Amber (LUc-Luca-Lucas) is hanging in there. She's in central NC.

That turtle that was mentioned above ^^? Well, it's found us and is sitting on top of us.
