    50 houses are on fire.

There was some kind of high pressure gas line situation north of us and 50 houses either blew up or caught fire. All of the other homes with gas are at risk.

Can you believe that? When I was a kid, one apartment in a huge complex blew up which blew out all of the windows on the side of our complex that were facing it. I can't imagine what it must be like to have the roof and walls of a house next to yours blow up.

The fire departments are completely overwhelmed and asking for everyone who has an available truck to show up even if they're from other states. 911 is calling all of the houses and telling them to get out.

State police: Columbia Gas customers in Lawrence, Andover, North Andover should evacuate

Sending prayers for all of those affected from this catastrophe. So sad when something like this happens to so many for a reason not of their own making.

Amazing only 7 people injured with so many houses involved.

It seems to have started at around 3 pm so almost everyone was at work. I'm so sad for the pets though.

Very scary. And I always selfishly use these situations to remind people to please donate blood. My sister survived a serious unforeseen accident over 12 years ago thanks to blood donors. Any of the injured in this situation will be relying on the same, and supplies in the local area will be depleted. Look for a local organization (red cross is ok, but usually the local processors will keep the blood local at minimum cost) and make an appointment!

Yes! This! I have donated gallons and gallons of blood!

I'm not far away either and spent some of this morning checking on friends and business acquaintances who live or work in the affected towns. One thing I learned from yesterday's gas explosions - If you have natural gas, know how to shut off the flow of gas to your home! I would have a wrench designated for the purpose close to the meter for quick access. Some of these homes burned to the ground because the fire departments couldn't respond to 80 fires all at once. The mutual aid system kicked in and showed its usefulness pretty quickly.

The good news is that the public shelters that opened frantically, changed their minds and setup pet friendly accommodations after people refused to leave their pets.

Prayers to the 18 year old who was killed sitting in his car in the driveway after the house exploded. The home's chimney fell on the car killing him and injuring two of his friends in the car.
