Like anything else, it gets easier with practice... Congratulations on your pillowcase!
It's ugly as sin but I did it! What killed me is that someone earlier that day said to me, "Sewing isn't that hard." Try telling that to the five people still class after I left. The only people who got done in time were the people who started before the actual class. I showed up a half hour early just to cut fabric and get everything ironed. One woman was in exactly the same position I was in last week. She couldn't get her machine threaded. Two hours later . . .
It's a lost art people. If you've never touched a machine before, prepare to hunker down. Seriously though, I wish that one person would have shown me one thing about this at some point in the last fifty years.

Pillow cases are the start of nice new dog bed covers. No picture for us?

I can post pictures again!
This is it. I learned the burrito style pillowcase and french seams. I picked kelly green for the trim because the woman cutting my fabric said that I needed a third color which I hadn't realized and I was in a hurry. The thread is black and can be seen through the cuff and the corners are wrong. I just didn't want to rethread the machine on class time. But yeah! I did it.
Dog beds are definitely on the table. I could just do big buttons. Figure out zippers later.
Well there you go, I've never heard of burrito style pillow cases. If you learned a french seam and how to put trim on those are good steps. I remember how hard simply sewing a straight seam was when I started. Nice green.

The burrito is so weird.
1 27" x WOF
1 9" x WOF
1 2" x WOF folded in two for a 1" strip
Put down the 9" then the 27" then the 2" all right side up, unfinished edges aligned. Then you roll up the 27" piece to half of the 9" piece, fold the 9" piece over to meet its own edge. Sew the unfinished edge. Then you pull out the insides and french seam the other two edges.
Everyone there was convinced it would not work. Makes you wonder who comes up with these things.
I like hunter green a little too much. I once painted our old kitchen cabinets the same color and my husband was less than thrilled. But the house sold so there you go!
That's pretty good for a first project, it looks like the pillowcase they make in the Joann class...

I had to find a video to see the technique. You did a nice job. The first thing I remember making in Home Ec was a cobblers apron. Doesn’t every 13 year old want a nice apron? The pillow case is cute and functional.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”
