Done with Chemo and Still Alive (mostly)

    What a wild ride!

Infusions were every two weeks for four months. The first two months were of adriamycin and cytoxin. My bone marrow failed at one point (white cell count of 300) but it rallied with a little time. The main difficulty was a really strange side effect called hand and foot syndrome where my feet turned bright cherry red, inflamed, and exquisitely painful. Then the full thickness of skin on my soles sloughed off. (Happy news... my plantar warts are gone!)

Then there were two months of Paclitaxel. The main problem with this drug is peripheral neuropathy. So if you can imagine walking barefooted across frozen Lake Erie from Buffalo to Canada, that's what my feet feel like. But that was more or less expected. What was a surprise is that the neurons supplying my bowel and bladder were screwed up. Won't give TMI, but it wasn't pretty.

Nature will take its course on the neurons... seems to be getting better slowly. But the big issue for me right now is I'm so completely deconditioned and debilitated. Heck, when I try to walk to the car or mailbox, I'm breathing hard and my legs think they've just beaten the 4 minute mile. It's awful.

But never fear. I have a crack team of physical therapists and aerobic coaches.

On the left we have Diamond P Slipjig Bridget, in the middle, we have Leeroy Brown, the mystery Lab, and on the right... Ram Jet Rocket Dog. They are just loaded with tough love. We have to walk NO MATTER WHAT!!! They walk pretty darn well on lead all together (good thing, cause no way I could do them individually). I can do about a half a block, with two breaks for breathers.

So... we'll see how fast I can recover some stamina.

Wishing you the best and a fast bounce back. I was amazes at how fast I regained thirty pounds, once food started tasting like it should. The dogs will be the best medicine you can get.
Only good thoughts going your way.
