    With bells on

    Aye Mates,
Whence working TRAD and MAC in the uplands, I run the lads with bells on. The bells allow me to know here they are in heavy cover and If they are getting too far out I can immediately recall them. The bells also give them an added measure of safety in letting others know that there are dogs in the immediate area.

    Cheers,
    THE DOG WHISTLER 🍀🇮🇪🇺🇸

Those are big bells. I found one of those flat sided ones, it's heavy. It's shotgun season for deer here this week and will be again the first week of Dec. Oban wears a bell then but neighbours put bells on all year, for bears.

The bells though "big" are relatively light in weight. I use different bells on each dog as it allows me to differentiate by pitch heard which dog I am listening to without actually having them in sight. This works well when I am working the two dogs together. In listening to the "rhythm" of the bell, I can actually discern when the dog is on a bird (pheasant) in heavy cover without seeing the dog or bird.👍

The things you learn about reading on here! I've seen labs referred to as "labracows" for their propensity toward eating things they shouldn't but I've never seen them wearing a (little) cow bell. Belling your dog certainly makes sense now that I read about it. Maybe I should bell mine so I know where they are out in the yard after dark!

Actually they make a clip on light for the dog's collar that will remain on as a steady beam of light or will strobe. The light goes on and off via a squeeze type pressure switch. They come in different colors of light. I have them on my dog's collars so I can tell where they are after dark. I can also use differing colors for each dog so I can differentiate betwixt the dogs. The lights are cheap $6 or $7 depending on where ye buy them.
