    Bohemian Rhapsody, the movie

Faye and I saw it this afternoon.

I'm a kind of demanding movie watcher/informal critic and have (perhaps unreasonably) high expectations for every aspect of a movie - actors, direction, sound, special effects, script, storyline. Marvellous movie, we highly recommend it. I'm hard pressed to give this movie less than five stars out of five. Not completely faithful to real life yet a very impressive example of film-making. All performances are very, very good. Although it clocks in at 2:15 it never dragged.

I did not like Queen that much back in the day. Have been revisiting that conclusion recently and the movie reinforces my revisiting.

My only quibble is that at first, the sound was almost unbearably loud. That seems to be a characteristic of movies (or theatres?) these days though. I must have adjusted though because by about 1/3 of the way through it wasn't that bad.

    Go see it.

Good to know. I'm glad it was well made. I've always been a fan. When I was younger, I named two of my cats Freddie and Mercury. For the record, Mercury is not a great name for a cat.

I have to laugh, Andrew, you just aged yourself, 'cause we products of the 60's and 70's definitely remember Queen.

I'll wait until the movie is out on Shaw-on-Demand or whatever and watch it from my armchair at home and maybe cry.

I thought you were going to say he aged himself when he said the sound was unbearably loud. [emoji38] I was not a big fan but I definitely remember them and it’s great to get a positive review.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

janedoe, we really liked it. Mercury is not a good name a cat? Inquiring minds . . .

Black Labbies, yup. Back in the day I preferred Kansas, Heart, The Steve Miller Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Seals and Crofts. Quite a few more.

smartrock, the sound was waaaay too loud at first. Reminded me of some concerts, which is why I have tinnitus now . . .

My cats mostly came when called. "Mercury" is just not the kind of name that is easy to pronounce if you have to repeat it. It just kind of slurs on the "u" and you wind up with Merc which is Murk and then you try to get cute and it becomes Murky.

    It's just odd.

Got it, janedoe. That's how Achilles morphed into Chili and Chili Dog.

My husband and I saw the movie recently and absolutely LOVED it! My emotions ranged from laughter, to sadness, to exhilaration. I loved how the settings of the first and last scenes were the same. I also empathized with the loneliness of fame and stardom, and what it does to people. The scene where he clicks the lamp on and off, and his friend doesn't respond, was heartbreaking. Freddie's life style was spiraling out of control, and he didn't know how do deal with it. The end, with the Live Aid concert was AMAZING!! I was, and am, a Queen fan.
