My husband was arranging CDs on my ironing board when I came downstairs. Many were dusty. We had this conversation.
Me: Please don't get my ironing board dirty.
Him: I'm converting all of the CDs to MP3s. I was going to put them on your phone and surprise you.
Me: It's not a surprise if you're doing it on my ironing board.
Him: You were supposed to sleep in.
Me: There are four boxes of them in the corner.
Him: I'm working on it.
Me: That's really nice of you. You know, I have a Snow Patrol CD in the player in the truck. It's been in there for ten years.
Him: I got that one.
He picks up my phone and starts scrolling.
Him: Ingrid Michelson?
Me: No.
Him: What's it called?
Me: I don't know. It's been in there for ten years.
Him: Imagine Dragons?
Me: No. Snow Patrol.
Him: Nine Inch Nails?
Me: Please stop doing that. Incidentally, did you check the cassette player?
He hands me the bluetooth speaker.
Me: This is great! I'm going to duct tape that to the top of the lawn tractor.
Him: The tractor has bluetooth.
Me: Great! We'll figure that out next spring.

It must have been an amusing conversation.
I have around 60 cassette tapes, many of which are recordings off of LPs. (Some co-workers are amused that I like having such ancient tech as cassette tapes.) I've played some tapes so often (like a couple Seals and Crofts) they sound like mud. Some, though still in decent condition, are probably otherwise too fragile to play. And yet there is definitely a different, richer and deeper, quality to the sound as opposed to purely digital.
I wouldn't mind having a turntable. Haven't yet figured out how to isolate it from the bouncing jouncing that comes from people and dogs iiving on a pier and beam foundation.

I threw in the towel and went with Apple Music for the family. You can pretty much find any song or album you want and download it to your phone. I have a box full of CD's in storage that I am just too lazy to burn into mp3's.
I was going to start collecting albums but figured it would be another labour intensive hobby that I have no place to store anything.
This may not come as a surprise as you guys know I am pretty techy but I converted years and years ago. Probably near 2000. There was a lot of tools to do so at the time. Even a cassette and 8 track player that hooked directly to a PC and would convert them into MP3 files. Now days most computers dont even come with a CD/DVD player anymore. That has died.
However, the cool thing with my smart home I have complete access to everything anywhere. Hemi even has his own playlists. When I leave for the morning, Alexa, play playlist Hemi Music. 95% of the time it works flawless, 5% well we get Hindi Music. So Hemi and I jam to a little Bollywood.
