      Sewing question II

I made a pair of fleece pants with my walker foot. About halfway through, the foot started jumping all over the place but only occasionally. I tried changing to a new needle and changing the tension but neither made a significant difference. Managed to complete the pants but it was rocky.

Changed the presser foot, put the presser foot back to normal and tried it on muslin. That went fine so I didn't burn something out or ruin something fundamental on my machine.

Any thoughts? Is there a different needle I should be using? Ballpoint? Or is it the foot? Is it possible that the machine is so basic that it can't handle fleece? It does fine with duck canvas though.

      Thanks.

I rarely use my walking foot but, I'd try a ball point needle. Fleece has nap, a lot sometimes, maybe the needle is catching. Another trick on high nap fabrics is to put a piece of tape over your intended seam and sew over it. I find it a pain to rip the tape off later though. Or a regular foot and pins, don't sew over them, well, you shouldn't.

Have you cleaned under the feed dogs? Fleece can generate a lot of fuzz, and if you have lots of lint stuck under the feed fogs, it can give you trouble.

Have not encountered that problem. You do have to keep an eye out for fuzz buildup everywhere though. BTW, I don't use a walking foot for fleece.

No but I ordered three yards of flannel online and they sent me one so that's about all that would be good for.
