    The companion and care

    A bit of a vent

I often am in awe of the love and depths we will go for our fur babies.

I recently had a suqlacsation of my replacement knee. Lets talk pain. I am back to 60 degrees and in tons of pain. Unlike the past I can no longer be prescribed the meds that work because of the opioid crisis. Not ok in my opinion. What ever happened to the oath of do no harm. I almost feel like my Dr are doing harm by not assisting in my pain levels. I really am trying to be nicer to myself. I know it might sound weird but I see the love , care and distance we would travel to take care of our fur babies. I need to try do the same for myself. Its just really hard chasing Dr after Dr. without too many answers.

Sorry for the vent I just needed to get it off my chest

    I'm sorry.

I remember when morphine was not allowed to be used for pain control in hospital and home settings, even by Doctors. A man we know, with his wife dying of cancer, lobbied extensively and worked to get that law changed. To have meds for pain control and deny their use is a travesty, possibly even illegal? Tons of good wishes for you, get better.

So, a dislocation? That sounds terrible and must be awfully painful! I don't know why they would not treat your pain adequately when there's clearly an issue with an unstable joint. Does this mean you need surgery again on that knee?

Smatrock this knee replacement failed the day it was put in. Yes basically the replacement dislocated . In tears and vomiting kinda pain. Its the second time its happened. The only issue is I cant get to the Ortho fast enough for them to get X rays. So its really rare and they don't seem to believe me.. I am so grateful that my chiropractor is not scared and he adjusted the replacement back into place for me. Im sure it would mean a re replacement.

By the way my title was supposed to say compassion and care

I'm so sorry--that sounds awful! It is such a shame that people who truly needs the pain meds can't get them. I hope you will be feeling better soon!

That sucks. I know we have an awful national problem with opiods. Figure we lost a bit over 50K men (and women) in Vietnam. We have more than that (70K?) dying of overdoses every YEAR in the US. I suppose it was just a matter of time before governments got involved. However, I am awfully sceptical about anything good coming from increased bureaucratic meddling.

But it isn't folks like you (acute on chronic pain victims seeking adequate pain relief) who are dropping dead of opiate overdoses. It's the folks getting illegal street drugs laced with fentanyl who overdosing.

I do so hope you get the care you need. Back in the days I was a nurse dealing with post-operative patients, it was always a tough call deciding when the opiates were absolutely essential, and when the patients were more interested in the medication than actually getting well. I would fight the doctors for more pain meds if I thought it would help the patients mobilize and recover faster. That's what concerns me about your story. You are going to have to work your leg to get stronger and get your range of motion. Either with a new joint, or with the one you have. It doesn't matter. You have to get up and get moving. And that might involve a "Come to Jesus" talk with your doctors.

I am so sorry you are going through this. I've had both knees replaced and in my right leg, the blood flow to my knee cap got disrupted. So I have a necrotic patella that will eventually have to be removed leaving the leg much weaker and less functional. But my pain right now is really minor. Just a nuisance, really. Barely reaches ibuprofen levels.

Stay strong. Take care of yourself. Hope you can get the docs in your corner working with you on this because it's going to be a long haul.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”
