How Many Grandparents do These Poor Kids Have?

My niece's boyfriend and his kids were at the Christmas Day meal so of course we took gifts for them as well as my biological great nephew and niece. And I got to counting, how many sets of real and honourary Grandparents do his kids have?

Their father's parents are split and each with a second spouse so that makes ..... 2
    Their mother, at least .................................................. ................................ 1
    Their father's girlfriend (my niece) .................................................. .............. 1
    Their mother's boyfriend, at least .................................................. ............... 1
Plus assorted grand aunts (like me) and uncles, at least one set ....................... 1

For sure six sets of Grandparent type people active in their lives. 6. There could be more. The kids are only 12 and 9 and at first thought all the presents sounds like something they might enjoy. But really, it's kind of sad. They must be torn between all these GPs. Do you think it's kind of sad?

I may be leaning toward it being good. As long as all are loving and caring. All my grands passed either before I was born or shortly thereafter so no real extended family.

I agree with Fran. I had lots of peripheral relatives running around who didn't think of the kids from my father's first family to be worth acknowledging. It's rough when your half-sibs get Big Wheels and you wind up with a deck of cards or nothing at all. It's nice of all of you to care. It goes a long way toward making them feel secure.

This. As long as nobody is obviously ignoring, singling-out, or slighting the kids...good thing.

Well, that's good. There was one time the kids chose to be with my sister and BIL, honourary GP, instead of their maternal GP. I thought that might pave the way for some family discord but if it did, I haven't heard.
