    Ortho Mom

So I noticed a few weeks ago my 3 yr old kitty Griffin was walking very weird on the back right. To me, it appeared his knee or hip popped out of joint. He exhibited no pain and as I approached him, it was clear my suspicion was correct. The kitty boys were running like wild animals through the house right before. Before I could get to him, Griff bolted off. Leg went back to normal. I made an appointment. Took him in Friday. Has a grade 2 luxating patella each knee. My vet (also ortho - did Samsons TT) says no surgery required right now. Several months ago I thought it looked like he was walking weird but then I got up to him and he was walking normal. I didn't think anymore of it. Just supposed to monitor and make certain the frequency of the flare-ups do not increase. Had the vet tech trim his nails as short as possible to prevent from catching in the carpet. Dr. Scott was amazed that I have 2 dogs with ortho problems and now a kitty! Just call me the Ortho Mom!

Cats are so flexible. I've never heard of that in a cat. I guess you have to curb wild play for all of them now?

Yes, been using the spray bottle a bit more to slow down the heavy action. I've got 4 and they are all with a few months of each other in age. My vet said he's doesn't often see it in felines but he it does occur. He seems confident Griff will be OK. My fingers are crossed!

Spray bottle- good idea! Your crew does have more than its share of ortho issues! Sounds like you'll be training them to be sedate pups and kitties for a bit. Some days I could use more sedate around here, too. I hope Griffin's ortho situation tightens up so that things aren't springing in and out of place for no good reason.

Sometimes, when it rains it pours. A vet once told me that animals with certain problems find us. Griffin is lucky to have you.

Thanks. Spray bottle works like a charm for the kitties. I try to hide it so they are not aware of where the stream is coming from. They are cued in to the sound of the bottle now so when I grab it, they stop and begin looking around! lol So far so good with Griffin. I believe the nail trim helped significantly. I'll be keeping his nails trimmed going forward. I am struggling with Asher's energy. Trying to find someone in Cleveland that does recreational nose work. I'm striking out. This boy needs to expel some energy.

And thanks Janedoe -- it sure does pour....and I wouldn't trade any of them for anything! I feel important being the one they count on!
