Last night at 10:25 we were watching tv and noticed a kid trying to break into our cars. What balls.
I chased him away and called the police. He got into my neighbors car and stole a wallet and other things.
I have a camera but he was in the shadows so I couldn't get a good video or photo.
Just a reminder to not leave anything of value in your car and get in the habit of locking your doors.

Our area (including the city next to us) has been rife with break-ins/vandalism/actual theft for quite some time now. The police say that the perps head out from Baltimore on the Interstate and get off on the first exit...heading toward an area that is considered, actually only in part, to be affluent. The police crime log has dozens of these complaints every week, sometimes many more than that (especially the break-ins).
Our cars sleep in the garage and we have security cameras and signs...so far, so good. Our one SUV was vandalized by kids using our own mailbox, pulled up from the ground, twelve years ago (my birthday...easy to remember), on our driveway. Bob had had to park outside of the garage because we'd filled the garage with stuff from a shed that was about to be hit by a back-neighbor's falling tree. The tree took out part of our fence but missed the shed. The neighbor's kid and his friends saw us moving the stuff and leaving the SUV out. We're pretty sure this "bad" kid was involved but the police never accused anyone...when they came out and were talking to us, they kept asking, "are you sure you can't think of anyone who might do this?". We didn't want to accuse without proof and so just said, "no". [Kid went on to burglarizing businesses...including where he was working at the time...and doing cocaine.]
I then petitioned to get a street light for our dark cul-de-sac. And the car hasn't sat outside since.
Thats too bad people have to be like that.
There's an online community called NextDoor where I frequently see people complaining that their car has been rifled through. Most people say their car was locked, they're sure because they ALWAYS lock their car. Do the people who ransack cars really go through the trouble of bringing a wedge or long rod or whatever you can supposedly use to get into cars? I'd think they're looking for a quick grab so checking the door handles to see if the car is unlocked seems like a more likely scenario. My next door neighbor for real said their cars were ransacked one night "even though it was locked" when my car was parked just feet away and my car was locked and alarmed with no apparent break in attempt. I'm always surprised to read people say their wallet or their cell phone or something like that was in the car anyway. What are they- teenagers?
Nextdoor is where I see those reports all the time...and I check the police log every day, too. It amazes me, too, that people leave anything in their cars...especially in these areas where break-ins are so well publicized. Sometimes you'll see an "it happened to me again" post. DUH!!!
A bit of a funny spin. This happens every spring it seems but years ago a series of cars broken into in our village netted the thieves several packs of gum. Gum wrappers led the Police to a house across the street where some boys of known bad behaviour lived. I know, they aren't all that stupid, so lock your doors.

We talk to another dog owner on our walk up the street and I warned her about locking the doors. She said it was probably these two loser kids behind her house and that they are always causing trouble.
We walked by that way and sure enough one of them was out and had the same type of hair sticking out of his hat that the car guy had. I googled the address, got a name, found them on facebook and it looks like he could be him. A small town self proclaimed high school thug and gangster (really means loser).
I am going to watch and see if I spot that back pack. It was the tell tale. Not that I am going to do anything about it but I like playing detective.
last year our car was broken into, i say broken into although we forgot to lock the doors because the person tresspassed onto my property, they got some change. This year last weekend several cars were broken into and one car was actually stolen from our neighborhood. Most people are saying their glovebox and console were gone through but nothing was stolen.

my neighborhood has an egging problem over the last 2 years....at least they arent hitting same home/cars over/over and spreading the hits out. my garage got hit once and my sidewalk and nephews truck. 3x in 2 yrs aint horrible, but if I get pissed off, those kids better watch out. Im tricky.

A few years ago we learned that a teenager had walked up our street in the wee hours, testing for unlocked cars. Ours were locked but he hit the jackpot with at least one, collecting small change and a pack of smokes. Then he had to brag about it on FB.
*dope slap*
Yep the cops had, er, a chat with him.
