This has become an epidemic down we have people from across the bay coming over and going into neighborhoods and steeling everything they can. A lot of guns have been stolen and a officer was killed earlier this year with one of those stolen guns. It's a shame times have to change and everything you own has to be locked up but it's a sigh of the times i guess. A coworker just today was contacted by the local police when they found his back pack and alot of other stuff when a couple of people were caught in a stolen car today.

We live on a circle as I said.

Last night we are watching tv at 9:30 and I see somebody cross the walkway at the start of the circle on the main st. They stop and stand in the shadows for a minute and they cross back across the street and start coming down the circle.

He gets about half way down and the dogs start barking (good doggies) and he stops and crosses the street to the darker side. He sees me in the window and keeps walking.

I go out the front door and yell not tonight.

He says that he is just exploring the neighbourhood. I say BS you are looking to break into cars like your buddy two nights ago. He says no way sir. I wouldnt do that. I yelled tell it to the cops cause they are on their way. He took off.

Nobody has any business coming down our dead end at night.
Why did he cross the street and come back and start down towards the house that left their car doors unlocked?
And even if you are walking and hear a dog bark three houses away that is not going to stop somebody and make them cross the street, on a circle.

I say he was up to no good. I didn't call the police because he didn't really do anything but I say he was up to no good. Heard one of his buddies made some quick cash and was looking to do the same.
    Thanks Everyone!!

Think your instinct was was right on the money Woody. I always have my super bright pocket flashlight close by it's a Creep ThorFire C8S. This thing always startles whoever I shine it at because you can't see anything past the light and the strobe action confuses humans and animals.

We get a ton of cars turning around on the circle because people have turned one road too soon. As far as walkers go I know there are a couple of dog walkers and a lady with a couple of younger kids that walk by frequently but never at night.

I bought a couple of Wyze Cams from Amazon. They are really inexpensive and work great for seeing things up close like somebody knocking of the door or I use the one to watch the dogs in the backyard. I am finding that they are not so great for identifying things farther away, especially at night. I might invest in a better one.

I bought a similar one on Amazon and am amazed how it lights up everything for a small flash light. The strobe is definitely irritating.

We have the same thing with cars constantly. It doesn't help that our two roads have similar names.

We've always had a few people who walk dogs late at night...including my husband (Dan has a small bladder and he goes outside more frequently than Sunnie to begin with). Those walkers and their dogs are totally recognizable and stay on the cul-de-sac.

I use arlo cams outdoors. they wireless and rechargeable. I recharge once a month via usb. I put one on a tree, one above my door, one on garage, couple in back yard....i use the pro hd 1080p ones....they have 4k now also. I also like arlo cause I dont have to pay subscription...5 cameras free for a week or 2 before erased in the cloud. ofc lots of other companies also, I have a blink in my garage which is good and cheap...dont know if would be great outside...takes double a's.

According to my community's Nextdoor comments...the thieves have a device that they can use, as they drive/walk down the block, and scan for key fob's RF signal (sitting inside your house). Then they access your LOCKED car. So, even though you actually DID lock your doors, you start questioning your memory of locking the doors. The commentators say that the recommendation is to keep your fob, when not in use, in a RFID blocking pouch or wrap it in tinfoil.

Our thieves hit a few streets, change neighborhoods, wait a couple months until we become complacent and return. The good news is that they are usually after the loose change and leave everything else rummaged through but not too much of a mess. On a rare occasion, they take the entire car for a joy ride and it is several miles away.

In my case, I probably did leave it unlocked because of dog distractions. They took some groceries that I was planning to take for work the next day but they also took a tool but left it down the street in another neighbors car!!! That night they hit about 7 cars on my street.

Have not checked this out but I read that locking your car door with the key fob is less secure than locking it with the door button. I think something to do with what Swanska says above.

I had a keyless start car as a rental recently. I am in the habit of checking my door to make sure I really did lock the car. The rental guys had a good laugh when I took the car back to them and said, "It won't lock." Seriously though, such a car would never work for me and some friends have the same complaint.

That's interesting, I didn't know about those devices. Maybe that's why my husband finds the hatch of his car popped open while it's in the garage. He is so extremely compulsive about locking his car, in addition to it being in a closed garage, maybe that's why the hatch has been found open a few times. Then it catches on the garage door as it's being raised, but that's a whole 'nother story.
