      Rides!

My three are crazy about going for rides. If the car is going then they think they should be too. "You're not going " is one of the phrases they are learning. They love the Ranger and all three will crowd on the seat with me. I'm sure Wallace would drive if he could. They ride on the front of the snowmobile and on the front of the ATV. Today my OH was getting out the riding lawn mower. It is a club cadet with a nice flat place to put your feet. You guessed it Elle was right there sitting at his feet. I have put my foot down no riding when he is actually cutting the grass. I don't think she would jump off but you never know.
M has also been know to get on the school bus. I have to watch them carefully when people are coming and going because they will get into anybody's car or truck. They have gotten into the UPS van, the plumber's van and the carpenter's van. They just want to go for rides.

That's funny that they all 3 want to go. Only one of our 8 dogs has ever really seemed like he loved rides, the others don't want to be left behind but it's not the car ride they seem to specifically desire. One of our bullmastiffs would get in the UPS truck or any other vehicle that came into the driveway. If I came home from the grocery store and left the back hatch open and he came outside while I was unloading, next thing I knew, Teddy was waiting in the back of the van. If I wanted him in the car for a reason he wouldn't get in but left to make his own decision, there he was, ready to go. Sometimes I took him for a ride around the block just so he felt like he got a ride.

We had a lab cross that was like that. He was a problem child and often got out to run the neighbourhood. The first time he was picked up by animal control he won't get out of the truck so they knew who owned him by his tag so they just brought him home. He often went for a ride around the block too. my cousin would pick him up and take him for a ride out to the farm. One time he got loose in the farm yard and got into the manure pile. He rode home in the trunk and didn't seem to mind it at all. It was still a ride.

That's hilarious! I can just picture him lying in the trunk, riding happily along.

Cookie loves going for rides. He knows that he will go someplace interesting and pulls towards the car. Well, sometimes the ride is to the vet, but he still doesn't lose the enthusiasm.

That's fun! Kimber would hop into anyone's vehicle, but I think it was more about going somewhere fun than the ride itself. She was the perfect car traveler- just went to sleep and only made a peep if she needed a bathroom break. She went on multiple 12+ hour car trips with us.

We're still figuring out Stormy. Sometimes she sleeps, and other times she looks out the windows and seems to enjoy the view. And sometimes she whines and kicks the blanket around and seems like she wants OUT. We haven't taken her farther than about half an hour. (Oh wait, we did take her to the breeder right after we got her. She was super wiggly.)

Samson and Asher are the best travel mates! Our trips to the Outer Banks are typically 13 hours. They are just amazing. I lucked out for sure. When not on our long trips, they still love to go for rides. Sometimes I will load them up and just drive around the metro parks!

Cassie can distinguish the different key rings I have. If I grab the truck key ring, she's at the door and pressed tight like the start of a downhill ski race. Just pop the gate and I'll be in that truck before you can get out the door!

My prior chocolate lab, Mocha, would snub me if she thought she missed a ride. She'd go behind the couch and stare at me. If I reached down to pet her, she would turn her head and walk away. If I took the keys out to get something out of the car there were days I would just give in and take her for a ride so she wouldn't sulk. Who trains who?

Lido's a good car rider and goes to sleep after a few minutes. However, he absolutely REFUSES to jump up into the back seat - even with high value treats as a lure. We have to put his front feet up on the seat, then boost his rear end up the rest of the way.

It seems that both Fitzi and Lucy love to go. Fitzi figuratively disappears into the upholstery - he is remarkably chill in the car. Lucy is alert, gazing through the windshield and side windows.

Not gone, only gone on ahead - Bruno, Rex, BoJo, Kendal, Kingsley, Moonpie, Avis, Corndog, Stella, and now Achilles
