    Tipping in Canada?

How much for housekeeping, restaurants and taxi? We usually do $3 a day for housekeeping and 20% for everything else.

Also, can we do it in US dollars? He's only there for two days and most of it is on a credit card.

We tip 10% to 15%. Remembering to discount the 13% GST first. Actually, many tip the GST amount since it's already calculated for them. You can tip in U$ if you want. I know my own bank will convert a small amount for free and I have a U$ account for that time we might take a trip south. Many people do. Not so well paid service industry people will likely appreciate a C$ tip they can use without conversion though.

I typically tip my server 20% or better and $3/day for housekeeping is good. Since (I assume) it's Toronto, USD should be fine - FYI $1 USD buys about $1.34 CDN.

Snowshoe, I've never considered factoring in HST when I tip. ETA: I base my tip on the total amount including HST.

Thanks for this info, I'll need it soon myself. Tipping on a total bill that includes tax is a topic of discussion here, too. We tend to tip on the pre-tax total but some restaurants give a "suggested" tip amount printed on the bottom of the check and it often is calculated on the total bill, not the pre-tax amount. Although for what we usually order, the difference is not that great but our tax rate is lower than 13%, too.
