Strangest chicken experience I've ever had.

One of my birds was injured a few weeks ago. A section of her wing was kind of hanging off. I couldn't decide if her wing had been caught on something or if something had snagged her with a claw. either way, and this is hard to explain, there was just a chunk of wing hanging off the side of her body.

She was behaving perfectly fine though like nothing was wrong, eating, drinking, hanging out with the other birds. She's usually a really stressed out bird so I didn't want to mess with her too much.

Last week, the feathers on that area fell away and there was an entire bone just hanging there. Called the chicken vet and she had left the practice. Called the goat vet and she doesn't do anything with birds. The chicken was still running around like nothing was wrong. The area seemed fine and completely healed but that bone was just hanging there with a chunk of wing.

Today it fell off. The whole chunk with the bone. Just lying on the ground. And she's still acting like nothing's wrong. She can't fly but that's just a question of putting the roost in her enclosure close to the ground so she can just hop up on it.

Strangest experience I've ever had with a chicken.

I've never heard of that before. That's very useful to know! I do feed my chickens small amounts of bread. Maybe I should stop doing that.

I don't think that's it though. She is over a year old and it's apparently angel wing develops over time. It was pretty clearly a traumatic event. Ripped the bone right out of the socket. Great information though.
