Which people do you confuse with one another?

I'm absolutely convinced that Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey are the same person. Watching True Detective Season 1 was very difficult for me. I had very little idea of who was whom.

I watched The Upside the other day. I was absolutely certain that Bryan Cranston was Kevin Kline.

And my neighbors. Good grief. They're both bald and they look exactly the same to me. I have to identify them by their voices.

My husband is even worse. He once confused Melissa McCarthy with Sofia Vergara.

    You?

    Related.

When I first started working for the government, I was under the wing of a wonderful older man...known to all as The Professor...who had the best sense of humor, including that which poked fun at himself. Loved this man!

Anyway, he was an inveterate reader of, amongst other things, mysteries. And one of his favorite authors was Charlotte Armstrong. So, naturally, Paul being Paul, he had to share that he always confused the name of a woman who worked in the next office over with this author. Same last name, different first name. He had to double-think every time he saw our co-worker.

Well...don't you know....from then on, every time I ran into this woman, I had to ask myself, "is she Charlotte or G....?"

I just listened to a psychology podcast (HIDDEN BRAIN) that talked about super recognizers vs. people who are face blind. Apparently, in general, humans are really bad about recognizing faces outside of family and close friends. In studies, passport control officers aren’t very good st matching official IDs to the person they belong to!

No wonder kids find it so easy to get/use fake IDs.

I'm pretty sure I'd be classified as a recognizer...there've been many times when I've recognized someone I hadn't seen "in forever" (e.g., 40 years post-HS-grad) and got a blank stare back (at least at first). I also think I've got a pretty middle-of-the-road face (nothing really outstanding) and am visually forgettable. In general.

Ooh...I just remembered the name of the second of the two actors I get confused. Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio.

I am mildly face blind. I have been known to talk to people about themselves. I took puppy Oban over to the snowmobile groomer hut to introduce him to a man who always liked to meet Jet. Mike had been out petting Oban for several minutes before I realized it was him. I have been unable to recognize myself in old photos. I do find a lot of baby boomer women, me included, are letting their hair go grey and cutting it short. We all look a lot alike to me. Ditto the bb men, they grow grey beards and drive pickups. I waved at three one day.

Well, being many, many years out of high school, I'll sometimes see a former female classmate and think I'm seeing their Mom, likewise a man and his Dad. That feels weird.

Most actors I can easily tell apart- Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughy are not 2 I'd mix up. There are 2 members of Congress I have a little trouble distinguishing, one is from my state the other is not, and those are 2 I know of the many others I don't. I'm always proud of myself to recognize an actor who I knew from one series and here they are in another show I'm watching. Omar from The Wire, for example- I've caught him a few times in other shows. Some actors just seem to be cast in similar genre shows.

That was my favorite conversation ever. He told me about the entire movie which supposedly starred Sophia Vergara. It took me forever to figure out who he was really talking about. Sophia Vergara was not actually in the movie.
