    Updates

ok, i haven't really been on much lately.
had my second cataract surgery, done a new way, which of course, isn't fully covered . ($2300 extra per eye) but all done with laser and really not a big deal. had my eyes corrected as they were after my lasik, many moons ago, so i won't need reading or distance glasses. may need a laser touch up in a few months but that isn't a big issue either. i do love my dr and he is the only one on long island that does this procedure , so far.

    the basement.
well, the floor is done, not what i originally picked out , as i saw the guy was not comfortable so we compromised and I'm pretty happy, he did have to come back a zillion times, took him 3 weeks, and it still isn't perfect but he left a tool here, so i do think he will be back to fix one thing that is fixable (a piece of sheetrock or something is sticking up from the floor-tho i will have an area rug there so I'm not stressing). the high shine, which i thought i would hate, is beautiful. looks like it's wet and because i have some turquoise sprayed on top of two different greys, it almost looks like water. caribbean water. nice. very nice.

the contractor came to start today. metal studs instead of wood, which made nick happy but i have no clue as to why, except if there ever is another flood (NEVER) the wood won't have to one down.

insurance. now that's a trip. they paid for the job and the contractor is working with us, to be within basically what i got, except the floor (because they pay to replace what i had, which was tile and carpet, not polished cement) so i shouldn't be too out of pocket.

the way the insurance works, regarding what i actually lost is enough to make one jump thru hoops . i must replace what i lost , cant exchange a sofa for four chairs, in other words. and you only get the depreciated amount back. a bit confusing. i have more than $7300. in recoverable depreciation, which is what it is called, and i will never get that back because 1. i am not replacing a kitchen table that was lost, or all the chairs (5) that were lost. i will replace a t-v , getting a much bigger one, this time around.

so, all in all, busy shopping which usually i like but i feel pressured, still going to the laundromat which is a thrill beyond all thrills (I'm the one who hates laundry in a basket), still have the pod in the driveway with all my stuff (or lots of my stuff). the basement refrigerator is in the little room off the den along with bags of dog food, toilet paper, paper towels and god knows what else. every week we pull everything out, vacuum, and return into neat piles. oh so not my way.

eli, my frenchie continues to grow. and look like a bull. he's all of 25.4 lbs (went to weigh at the vet this morning) and i feed him raw and now going to cut back a bit because he's 7 months and should never be more than 28 lbs. he is as stubborn as the day is long (or nick would say, as me) and refuses to learn commands other than sit. "come" is a constant source of me going to get him, repeating the command and him looking at me like wtf. he was the star in class and came home and tricked us all. his potty training is me running out with him very often as i still don't trust him. i got him this great round bed from the folks who make that rug (shaggy dog?) and i watched him dig in it, then squat and pee. twice. so, went to my ex's and had to wash the cover and the inside, and that bed is put away until i think he might not be so nuts. he's still running thru the house with his leash and he has some done destruction.nothing horrid but i am not used to dogs chewing on antique furniture legs (and right in front of me) or pulling tassels and shredding them from a piano shawl. or peeing in the house after i 've walked him 7000 times.

he somehow knows to leave jake, my nearly 12 yr old alone, and only hang on vangies' throat, ears, face, belly , and tail. there is no doubt in my mind, that poor vangie got that horrid folliculitis from eli biting her nose and bacteria getting in. most of her nose is healed, but there is still a band across where the hair is not fully grown in. i put colloidal silver cream on and eli licks it off. hopeless.

lately, eli seems to think that 3 AM is time to squeak, oink, cry and get up so his little crate gets picked up and put in the hallway, while still under a white sheet. he then goes back to sleep till 5 when i feed them all.
i needed a puppy like i needed a third armpit.

anyway, wanted to let you know what we're up to.
hope all is well with you guys.

Good update. And I have to say, your Eli stories make me laugh. Sounds like a little stinker and the "good thing he's cute" phrase is probably muttered a time or two in your house.

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear your surgeries went well. Sounds like things are moving along in the basement. I don't get the insurance. When we had a minor flood we were given a check to cover damages and things that needed replacement and we spent it as we needed.

Eli sounds like every Boston I've met. Hard headed and single minded.

You'll definitely need t take pictures and share them.

Lucky you, metal studs won't twist and warp like wood.

Thanx for the Eli update and story.

awww, a cute widdle puppy wuppy! SOOO hear you on needing a puppy like a hole in the head, but he's cute, and will be a great little clown for you when he grows up.

your floor sounds really cool! and water-proof! do you think you could take some pictures to show us?

i too dont get your insurance, when my basement flooded the last time (3 times in 3 years! from 3 different reasons, the 1st 2 times we fixed ourselves, the last one was just toooo much damage,.whole finished inhabited basement) they came out with the "remediation" people, walked through, discussed what was to be replaced and with what (a suggested couple of places for the flooring etc along with the square ft $ allowance), and then with stuff that was wrecked, assigned a $ value to each thing, and we could replace, or not, cheque was for what we agreed on.

progress, slow, but its coming along. know you'll be oh so glad to have it back the way it all should be. hang in there
