    any MAC users?

I just bought my 1st mac after 20+ years of using windows machines. I only use this machine(mac air laptop) to surf the internet it seems as I do have other main computers with all my "life" on them. My question is about photo editing and any tweaks/apps people like on their macs. I noticed mine came with iPhoto. do people like this/does it work well for editing raw? or better yet, what method do you like best to edit/upload to the net your photos? I use lightroom/photoshop on my main computers.

just curious to hear ideas which will let me get the most enjoyment out of my new toy...never thought i would ever own a mac...but back in the 70's my dad brought home an apple II c I believe...wish I jumped on the apple bandwagon back then

I have a Mac Book Air that DH got me after my first quarter in college. I like it for general browsing, I've never really played with i photo simply because the air doesn't have to much memory so I try not to put to many pictures on it. My PC desktop is my work horse, I love that thing. Actually I'd be interested in what others say as well, I've had mine for almost 2 years ish and I don't use hardly anything except Microsoft office and Firefox lol!

I have a MacBook Pro. I don't generally do a lot of photo editing, so I won't be much help. However, as far as iPhoto, I think it only does general editing, like cropping, red eye, and color effects. I don't know much about Photoshop, but I don't think iPhoto does anything to the extent Photoshop does.

I dont think my mac air will ever be used other than to surf the net/forums and be portable...but I am definately exploring what options are out there. I only got 4mb purposely so I wouldnt try and replace my main computers...but love hearing optons. so far this mac air is so comfy/light/quiet/cool...it could sit on my lap all day

I have a Mac air-- I also don't usually edit photos but I have used some general photo editing features on iphoto. Loooove how thin it is.

Two excellent options are Lightroom and Aperture. On photo forums, it seems many users are quite happy with either of these over PS, because they can't justify the cost of PS.

Both do raw. My understanding is that LR has more functionality than Aperture, but that Aperture is pretty darn good in it's own right. Both have a loyal following.

My understanding is that neither do layers, that's why some still must use PS. But I haven't upgraded my LR yet, so I don't know if v5 does layers, which I don't do anyway.

Oh, and there's PS Elements, too! A consumer version of PS. It doesn't do raw.

But isn't the HD a Solid State?

After over 10 years as a Windows network professional (Net Admin, Sys Admin, etc.), I quit work when I had DS (who is about to turn 5). A couple of years later, my trusty Windows gaming notebook started misbehaving (hardware), and I wasn't going to up money into a 5.5 year old notebook. So I bought a MacBook Pro. I was going to Bootcamp it and dual-boot Windows, but I learned that a MacBook running Windows has half the battery life and runs hotter and more slowly. So I committed to staying in Mac OS. I like it. Welcome to the dark side. Or maybe it's "welcome away from the dark side".

I use Photoshop on my Mac, but that's because we have a group license for Adobe Creative Suite through our business.

I have an iPad, iMac, and a MacBook Air.

I have "light room" on my iMac but I usually just do minor adjustments to my photos, nothing heavy and do it on iPhoto. Both raw and JPEG

check out the apple aperture app

I have a mac book pro. I use the iPhoto but I don't normally edit a lot of photos. If I am editing I often just use he program that came with my Nikon Camera. For uploading iPhoto is pretty good or you can just upload them straight online like on photobucket.
I would say for small, basic editing use your Mac book but for doing big, high resolution photos use a different program or perhaps your other computers that have your 'life' on them

macs are awesome! Have fun with your new toy
