He thinks that the flashes from those four days were an aura preceding a migraine and that the illness contributed to it. My husband was an unhappy camper a day after my headache but my husband was mobile (without flashes) and I was in a dark bedroom for hours. The dilated pupils were from what the doctor put in my eyes today to check out my retinas. He wanted to do both eyes for comparison.

I get these quite often, but without the actual headache (luckily). Called an ocular migraine. I get small flashes of light, and kind of an "underwater" look to my vision. Usually lasts about 20 minutes and then resolves itself. For me, onset is provoked by stress. Since I retired, episodes have dramatically reduced. I am not aware of any type of treatment for them, just learn to manage it when it happens and avoid stressful situations.

I get ocular migraines, too. Annoying, but short-lived and painless.

Hmmm, that's going to be tricky for you, if you have the flashes with aura but they resemble retinal flashes from an eye problem. It was strongly stressed to me that flashes were possibly a serious eye emergency and I'm to get to the Opthamologist immediately. Sure as heck no waiting for four days. I suggest you ask both your physician and your opthamologist for advice on how to handle it next time. I am pretty short sighted; if you are not then maybe the eye concern isn't as serious for you? Probably good to ask so you'll know ahead of time what you should do.

To be honest, I don't really know what the correlation is. He took a long hard look at my retina and said it was in great shape and that the flashes were an indication of a migraine. If it gets worse, I need to go back in. There was so much going on in such a short period of time that I couldn't tell what was connected to what. I've had a few smaller flashes since but nothing like what was going on over the weekend.
