Ugh! I went to a 4th of July bbq and one woman mentioned her dog jumped the fence this morning.

Me:"Maybe you should keep him inside."
Woman: "No, he tears the place up."
Me:"Sounds like he might need more exercise. What kind of dog is he?"
    Woman: "He's a lab. He's a year old."
Me: "Oh, I remember when my lab was a year old! So much exercise..."
Woman: "I walk him a mile almost every day."
Me: "Umm... that's probably not nearly enough."
Woman: "I took him to the vet to see what his problem is, but he says he's just a young lab."
    Me: "Yeah..."
Woman: "I just don't know what to do."

Me: suggesting lots of different ways to exercise the dog
    Her: excuse excuse excuse

I finally walked away. If she were my neighbor, I'd be beside myself.

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH H my heart bleeds for you.

i ran into this a couple of weeks ago with my coworker whose boyfriend just NEEDED an american eskimo puppy. no amount of me talking about rescues would persuade her... fine. i ask her what breeder she's going to... she gives me the name. i google it and it's a pet store nearby with multiple complaints, violations, and dead dogs in the freezer :O

i turned into a raving lunatic. wasn't pretty.

(but the guy did end up a 5 year old rescue. turns out SHE wanted it to be a puppy, not him.)

trainer came yesterday. adjusted the harness and guess what? tried to sell her on raw so now i had an entire conversation on raw, explaining why i only have eli on raw, tho may go back to it with vangie and no , you cant just go to the supermarket and give the dog hamburger meat. i told her about the need for calcium and how when i get the ground chicken or turkey from nick (as opposed to the goat, rabbit, llama , venison from hare today) i add ground eggshell powder.
don't you think she then says, can i go to the store and get chopped meat?
uh, yeah, if you have the eggshell powder.

oh kill me, it will never be done right. today she was taking the dog to the vet. my vet too.
I'm sure she will tell him i've been a PITA.

This woman sure is something else. What exactly? I have no idea. I feel bad for you getting caught in the middle of it all. These people need some serious help. Like yesterday.

they just don't listen. that's why she started her doggy adventure with a bichon. i have nothing against them, but very hard to housebreak. theirs never was. 14 years of pee, all over the house, ruined carpetsx4, wood floor rotted.
because her husband wouldn't allow a CAGE (not a crate , a cage)

    pretty much hopeless.

she was very proud to tell me that the vet said he got all his shots when he was supposed to.
    swell.

Was thinking about your friend and this post last night, bett.

Hunters uncle just rescued a darling little schnauzer mix and based on what I've heard from his mom I'm questioning why he even got a dog in the first place!!

His previous dog was morbidly obese. He plans to feed the new dog once a day which is not good for weight and definitely not good for small dogs.

The shelter was feeding her 2 cups a day which he plans to continue because that's what they told him to do. We tried to tell him that's too much for a dog that is 7 months old and only 8 pounds! Two cups a day will get that little dog just as fat as the old one in one time but he just won't listen!

Feeding her science diet because that's what the shelter gave him but he will probably switch to kibbles and bits since that's what his old dog ate until it "got allergies" and hunters mom convinced him to at least feed blue buffalo. The science diet is making the poor little thing poop 4 times a day!

He's crate training which is good but he wants to leave water and a "handful of treats" in there with her during the day. Hunters mom went to check on her at lunch time and she had spilled the water everywhere and made a huge mess. She removed the water and he told her she was so mean and he would leave less water tomorrow. Um how about no water!

Not as bad as your friend Betty but I just don't get it!!! I wanted to ram my head into the wall just from listening to her tell me all of this!
