Ha, should try one of these 80# brute prince/princesses who really give you a yank/dislocated shoulder/body drag if you're not careful.

now i say nothing but go in, walk eli, get a bag of treats and go driving around the neighborhood, talking to every gardner, mailman, few ex man and anyone in the street. nope, they saw a white dog.
    ...
My old boy did not give a fig for any dog treats.
He was only bribable with grilled salmon, texas rubbed brisket, ... the good stuff. Good luck with getting that ready in a snap/emergency "wait while I fire up the charcoal, should be ready in about 20 minutes!"

But the Sound of a leash/chain ...and he would come running, because he valued a leash walk more than a free run. Go figure, but he loved his leashed walks.
You could run him off the leash for an hour, and it didn't count. He still wanted the leash walk.

I'm just about ready to go back out and search, thinking about the street at the end of my block that is heavily trafficked with camp buses, and the other end, a canal.
...so i say "how were you holding the leash? he's 8 lbs, how can he pull away?"
    Too many numbskulls, I swear.

Tonight coming him I saw a fun little border mix running loose on a dangerous road, who reminded me of a small version of my dearly passed Koda. I stopped. Asked some walkers if they lost their dog (no) Turned back up the hill, got out. Tried to walk past my car. The bling squad drivers cut me no slack zooming up the hill, giving me no quarter to even slide past my car.

I approached the pooch, and talked to him, he barked and retreated up a driveway, another dog also barked, and eventually a human came out.
Job done. I could not let such a great dog risk his life so close to possessed drivers.

she swears, that it was wrapped around her hand. so i say "tell your husband the BS , you were holding the loop and nothing more. you need to wrap it around your hand. and, the next time the dog runs away, DO NOT CHASE HIM AS HE THINKS IT'S A GAME,RUN THE OTHER WAY, CALLING HIS NAME".
    .
Good point. Psychology beats chasing every time.

Reminds me I need to have a few more strategically positioned treats for Zou Zou. She's more independent minded, and eminently bribable.
