I expanded, "They're little wood chips you put on the bar-be-cue coals to flavour the food." Where does he have to go to get them? I tell him if they're not in the grocery store near other bar-be-cue stuff to not worry about it.

I don't see any bags of wood chips so I figure there were none in the store. Later on I notice he's bought a bag of potato chips, not the same colour bag as we usually get. Not as big either. Seems they put the Mesquite flavoured potato chips in a small brown bag. I smile, eat some, obviously his attempt to make me happy since he couldn't get the real thing, what a nice man.

On Saturday I mention them. OMG, he had no idea they were not the right thing. ROFL. He asked a clerk about them. "Right, right" said the male clerk, "We have them over here." And he led OH to the potato chip aisle. So of course I ask the OH, "You didn't think it was a bit odd that all the other packages were potato chips and cheesies and corn chips and stuff like that?"

No he didn't because this package has a picture of...............

a little wood fire on it. Along with the words his wife used, bar-be-cue, so it must be right. Oh, oh, I'm going to get a stitch from laughing.

They're not bad dipped in the elote though.

My OH, gotta love him. And Bamps, he thanks you, he loved the elote even though we didn't have a key ingredient.
Ah ha ha, that's too funny!!! I'm glad he liked it. I change it up each time, if I got this, it gets some, if not, it won't. We have mesquite trees here too for fresh wood chips.

This place has "mesquite seasoning" that will give a similar taste if put some into your mixture.
