Yes my parents made me learn and I have to say I love it! My husband has a manual Ford Ranger that I drive sometimes.

Well, from your description, it sounds like you and DH are on the same page, Andrew. He has said he will never have an automatic. But, alas, that is all I can drive, so I will always have an automatic! I am convinced that the part of my brain that controls manual shifting simply does not work. A few people have tried to teach me, including my very patient father. He was particularly interested in having me learn so I could ride motorcycles with him. I got my permit, but I did not really get the shifting, so that was that.

Now knowing how much you enjoying tooling around in your manual vehicles, I can't help but imagine that you must miss drives in the Hill Country!

When I lived in Kerrville and worked late shift at Mr Gattis Pizza my relaxation after getting off at 1AM was to drive for an hour or so in the Celica. Didn't drive really fast because of the hills, curves, and deer, but good times.

Yes and have been able to drive one since I was 22. The stick shift cars I've had are a 1994 Acura Integra, 1998 Acura 2.3 CL, 2005 Honda Accord sport package, 2006 Honda Accord sedan (boring!) and my last car is a 2013 Hyundai Genesis 2.0 Turbo R Spec (6 speed, 274 horsepower).

We also have a 1969 Chevy Nova, 4 speed, 355 small block with a 10 bolt rearend posi.

There's a whole thing up here about classic cars. Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler, even AMC. Between about Memorial Day and Thanksgiving people are cruising. Local Lions Clubs will raffle or auction a classic car as a fundraiser.
