How old were you when you got chicken pox?

Talked to my sister last night about the fact that my husband had shingles and told her that I didn't remember having chicken pox but that our mother had said that we all had it at the same time. My sister said that we had it when she was four and I was two. It hadn't occurred to me that kids got it that early. I guess I've always thought of it as something you get at school.

I'm curious. How old were you when you got chicken pox?

Gosh, it must have been before I started school. DB must have been in 2nd-3rd grade and got them. Mom figured she would expose me too to get it over with at one time. Unfortunately, with the incubation period, by the time my brother was almost over them, I was just breaking out. Mom had to handle one sick kid right after another.

I had it when I was in the 5th grade. My oldest son (now 21) had it at 22 months old right after I gave birth to his brother. That wasn't very good timing....that younger sibling received the chicken pox vaccine that had just become available so he has never had it. My mother had shingles on her neck, it was very painful. I think only those you have had chicken pox get shingles?? But I'd have to look it up again.....

That is true. But people with shingles can give chicken pox to people who haven't had it. Then those people can get shingles. It's kind of ugly.

I heard you aren't meant to get it twice, but I had it before I was 5 and then again at 22, I felt sooooo bad. Backache, killer headache and of course spots on my stomach and hairline.
