    My Eyeballs are Shrinking!!

Had an eye exam yesterday and got new glasses and contact Rx with each distance and close up part reduced 1/4 diopter. Yay. This means I will still have very thick glasses, -9, but at least I'm not getting worse than I was.

I did know this happened to some people, that their long, stretched out eyeballs began to shorten up as they aged. But I don't know anyone who has had it happen to them. I have a trial pair of contacts to try and I was going to update my 9 year old frames anyway. This is not going to be cheap but I'm happy.

    Anybody else experienced this?

Yes, happened to me at the last exam. I've got the best eyes in the family - brother was in bifocals before finishing high school. Mom and Dad both needed glasses much earlier than I did. My "car", distance vision, glasses had to be changed because they were actually a little too strong. The reading glasses, LOL, went the other direction.

Yes for me, too. I have myopia and astigmatism. At my last eye exam, last week in fact, the doc commented on how much my eyes have improved.

It's one of the few side benefits of getting old, and having presbyopia. Instead of having to stand up and read a newspaper on the ground (like people with normal eyes do, beginning at age 40 or so), we actually can sit and read at a normal length now.

LOL, years ago I was told my mild astigmatism was gone because my lengthening eyeball had stretched it out. Maybe it'll come back.

Had an exam a couple weeks ago. Doc said my eyes were slightly better for distance but worse on reading.

So I now have a progressive prescription. She did not say bifocals but I think she was trying to protect my fragile male ego

I laugh about this, not a big deal.

My husband did. Years ago. Nothing ever came of it but it is really disturbing to hear. He was also once told that his brain was shrinking.
