BogeyBaby and I fold our towels the same. If anyone around here wants to fold the towels and put them away, shoot me if I dare to criticize the folding technique!
Andrew, you're clearly a lucky man. Faye has some real stamina. One of our local newspaper/radio guys, Dan Rodricks, posted this photo of tomato cannery workers on his FB page just this morning. Karmic! Dignity of work...

Okay, I admit it, I like towels folded in thirds lengthwise first, and then fold in thirds again. Mom did towels this way, so maybe it's something wired into my DNA, or maybe because they fit in the small cupboard space that we have to keep them.
This year they put me on a different job, then in the past. Keeping an eye on the machine that piles the cases onto pallets. I've never liked this machine, it's big, it's noisy and can be temperamental. If everything is running well throughout the label line, it can spit out a pallet of 50 cases, with 24 cans of 28oz. tomatoes every two to three minutes. As well, as making sure it keeps running, I need to print out a ticket to slap on the pallet that identifies what's on it, record the time, pallet number, work order and product code. Then start up the wrapper after the lift truck driver puts the pallet on the wrapper. Took me awhile to get a system that works well. Also, every hour I need to do a check of a pallet to ensure that all numbers match and there are no torn cases, dented cans etc. I try and do a quick survey of each pallet anyway. Love it when at the very bottom of the pallet I see a shiner (can with no label) and need to tear the pallet apart to replace that one can. Each case weighs about 50 pounds (I weigh about 120 pounds). I'm fortunate the lift truck driver that is at the end of the line is excellent. If he has a chance he will help me. I'm constantly amazed at what a great driver he is. Last night was really hot and humid. Sweating just sitting there and I work in one of the cooler parts of the plant, can't imagine how people working in other departments survived.
When everything is running well, we can process almost 200 tons of tomatoes an hour. The plan for this year is to do over 3 million cases of finished product, plus aseptic bins of tomato paste and crushed tomatoes to be used for making pasta sauces and canned paste during the winter.
I've worked in the food industry in one form, or another most of my life. Grew up on a farm. Worked in quality control at Bick's Pickles for seven years and now I've worked in the tomato industry for almost 20 years. It's work I enjoy, for the most part. Though this time of year can be a bit of a struggle, so many things to do around the house and so little time and energy to do it. Having Andrew around has certainly made my life easier during this time. No more, trying to decide which one thing to do in the meager amount of spare time that I have every day. Thanks sweetie.
