I got summoned for jury duty a month or two after I was discharged from the hospital for my spinal cord injury. Got a note from my doctor about all my medical problems and was deferred. If you have ANY medical problems at all they will likely defer you also. Good luck!

I've never had an excuse that would get me out of it. I serve and serve and serve. That's all right. They put in really comfy chairs and the Worcester County court building for the jurors and the sandwiches aren't bad.

I missed my original date for jury duty twice. Both got rescheduled without the option to call in the night before to see if I really needed to show up.

The first time my cat needed emergency dental work for a broken tooth the day before I was supposed to call in. When I called the jury office to explain my situation the clerk said she was an animal lover and I could reschedule. She even gave me a few alternate dates to choose from, however showing up on the new date was mandatory and there was no calling in the night before to be potentially excused at the last minute.

The second time, I didn't get the summons but got a postcard saying I needed to call within 48 hours and mentioned fines and arrest warrants for not showing up for jury duty when I was supposed to. When the card came I was out of town and based on the postmark it probably "arrived" a week earlier than I saw it so I ended up calling well beyond 48 hours. This time there were several questions about me not receiving the summons, confirming of address, etc. After explaining I had been summoned three times before and served all three times...and if she wanted to see boarding passes from my trip I could present them to show why I didn't call sooner, the questions stopped and I was given a date to show up the following month.

The government hates me, I've not been asked to sit on their juries. I'm the one person who wants too out of all the people I know!

I have been called twice but have been away at college both times so I was excused.

I know it's wrong but I've heard of people, lawyers actually, that throw their notices away and don't go. The notices aren't sent certified so there was nothing really proving that they got them.
