What would make you take a job with lower salary?

What types of things would make you take a job with a decrease in pay (approximately 5-8%)?

    Would and did.

Got burned out on a job that I initially loved but it became too high pressure. Was doing the AR for a medical business then eventually having to negotiate contracts with insurance companies. That and the 20 minute drive became almost an hour as the area built up. Plus I was on call and worked rotating weekends. My decision to step back to pure medical transcription which I love. Not long after I was offered a job as lead transcriptionists at another medical facility, no weekends, morning hours that I love and a great pay raise and only 2 miles from home. It was the perfect job until a hospital corporation gobbled up that business.

If the job itself was what I wanted, the commute was better and the people/environment were better, I'd take a 5-8% pay cut.

And if they let me bring Mocha to work, that would be worth a percent or two

Less stress, no more shift work, better hours, better drive, more control - self employed. REally, a neighbour gal drives sometimes 2 hours one way to get to her work. It's a bad drive in winter and I'm not the only one who fears it might kill her. The drop in pay she'd have to take to work near where she lives means she couldn't pay her bills, even with reduced gas, insurance and car maintenance. She's still looking.

Did it, years ago. New job was in a geographic area we wanted to move to. It helped that VA is a lot less expensive than CA, too. But life's too short to be chasing money.

I would take a 5-8% pay cut if I could work from home everyday, bring Roxy to work with me, or work with dogs all day in general. My job is really good about letting me leave whenever I need to for Roxy, like if she is sick or needs to go to the vet and things like that, but I really miss her when I am at work. My lunch hour just isn't enough time!
