    'Vicious' dog attacked 1-year-old child

Dog declared vicious after attack | Dayton, OH Crime | www.whio.com

I hate to read these stories. Makes me wonder what went wrong with the dogs training. I know any dog can be made mean. Growing up we had a neighbor who owned a vicious Chihuahua. This little monster was teased by the owners. They played very rough and had no formal training. I lost several pairs of socks to the little ankle biter.

Oh boy...I have never heard of a "vicious" Jack Russell Terrier. The article does not mention the extent of the one-year old's injuries?

I just wonder if the parents of the child over reacted and now this dog has been deemed vicious? I know that Jack Russell's are known to be very intelligent dogs. I understand they can be very hyper too and they need lots of exercise and training.

This article really doesn't go into detail about the incident...but if the owner of the dog can get him back...then I am thinking that the injury was not that serious?

JRT's can be nasty, and not in a tiny dog way. They are big dogs in a small dog body. I have heard several instances where they have bitten children in the face and they are not known as being good with children. And, I have seen them in altercations plenty of times when I went to dog parks as well as in obedience class. In fact, there is one in class that wants to eat Linus for a snack! They get really riled up, herd, nip, and sometimes getting them to tone it down can be pretty tough! They also need a lot of exercise and mental stimulation. They are amazing ratters though!
