    Gel manicure?

I get pedicures in the summer but haven't had a manicure in years. Yesterday I decided to indulge in both at the nail salon and discovered I was the only person getting a traditional manicure. All the other women were getting "gels". It seemed to take much less time and the one woman I spoke to said it lasts a couple of weeks. One big reason I avoid manicures is the quick chipping. Any one else a fan or not of this new-fangled gel technique?

I've hesitated getting a gel manicure because my nails grow so fast and I literally get anxious if my nails are any sort of long. They do last, my brother's girlfriend gets them and likes them.

I'm not a fan. I got gels for a long time when they first became popular and honestly they only last a little longer than good quality nail polish. I do like the fact that they dry quickly but at the salon I go to they let you put your regular manicure under the same UV lights they use for gels and they dry that way in 6 minutes. I would ask the salon if you could do that. Also, when they do begin to chip they peel and it is somewhat damaging to the nail. The process to take them off is longer than with a regular manicure and I don't like having my nails in the solution for that long. If you do want them be sure to remove them properly to avoid too much damage.

I go every 2 1/2 weeks for a French gel. I like the gel because it lasts a long time. The only disadvantage is that it is a pain to remove the gel tips and takes a few months for your real nails to get back to normal.
