this is great news!!!! I wonder if it's going to be easy to get? I had a cat die of fibrosarcoma about 8 years ago. It's horrible to watch your pet slowly die because you give them a vaccine to keep them from getting sick, and that vaccine is what killed them. The only vet that had this vaccine available was where we used to live in California, if you see any more information on the availability of this vaccine please let me know. I refuse to vaccinate my cats with any vaccines that are adjuvanted.
Too bad it is a recombitek product. That being said, it may be fine for cats, since it is specific to them. I and other breeders of small dogs have had too many problems with the Merial recombinant DNA vaccines in small dogs. Perhaps the dose is too high for the tiny dogs, as is being currently studied. I have reached the point that I won't use them on the little dogs even if they are free: which they are at some rabies clinics.
I have known poor kitties with the cancerous lump from the vaccines, so this is probably a good thing.
The kittens will be 8 months old Dec. 1 and need rabies, microchip and to be spayed. I just called Merial Canada and unfortunately the 3 year non-adjuvanted is not available in Canada yet. However they will only need this one shot and then not again till a year later. We will do the rabies this week, I think, and then spay and microchip in three weeks.
