I sit here with mixed emotions this day. I'm a Vet. I served over 22 years with the USAF. I still feel a strong emotional tie to the men and women who serve, both the US and our allies. I was thanked for my service several times today. I truly appreciate it, although I feel somewhat embarassed by it. I always felt it was an honor for me to serve my country. I always felt my sacrifices were worth it.

I say this with the utmost honesty and sincerity, so please don't take this wrong. My heart breaks a little bit every day knowing my countries leaders have broken faith with it's military members and veterans. The scandal with the Veterans Administration is disgraceful. There are Vets who need help now, and can't get it. The are Vets who choose suicide because they can't get help for the mental anguish they feel from what they experienced doing their duty. It takes well over 600 days for the VA to make a decision regarding a Vets disability claim. I have personally chosen not to go to the VA for a valid disability claim, knowing it could hamper a combat wounded Vet from getting the help they need. My benefits have been cut, promises made to me have been broken, and our leaders are clueless as to the life the average military member leads. They should all be embarassed and ashamed of how these men and women have been treated. Our "leaders" have put them in jeopardy, with dubious reasons, and the leave them to fend for themselves. Shameful.

So if you really want to thank a Vet. Contact your congressman, your senator, your president, and tell them to get off their asses and do the right thing. They put these people in harms way. It's time for them to step up and keep the promises made.

History says today is Veterans Day. I say EVERY day is Veterans Day. Every day, our service members know, this could be the day they give the ultimate sacrifice asked of them. Let's make sure it's worth asking of them. Let's make sure we keep the faith.
