^Was wondering that too. I don't know if a sterile saline solution is OK or not.

    Sending more healing prayers.

One thing to suggest....as someone who has dry eyes.....

It might not just be the air in general irritating your eyes. I have to avoid so many facial products, even those unscented, because of fumes they give off. No more anti-aging products for me, just plain moisturizer...and most SPF ingredients drive my eyes batty. Yes, "beach" is a good comparison.

I also have to stay out of drafts...most noticeably the air vents when the air is blowing.

If I don't have any offensive product on my face, I've found wearing glasses tends to keep in eye moisture...but if there are fumes they'll make it worse. Fast.

Hope everything starts to get better for you and Nick really soon.

    Another thing.....

Air fresheners....and I know at one time you were using a "gel in a jar" type of product (because I tried it and my eyes went nuts)....they'll aggravate dryness, too.

my eye dryness is strictly from the surgery. i wear no perfume, oils, scented anything, including soaps. no face makeup at all except if we go out (now when was that last?) and then , only blush, that doesnt seem to do it to me. very careful with my eye shadow and mascara, once i find one that works, that's it.

the air fresheners in a round jar, virtually have no scent (how can that be) but are more to absorb and mostly in the room where the dogs crates are (bulldogs stink, sorry they have a distinct aroma labs don't)/ and i spray lysol running out of the room.

i normally have dryish eyes, was allergic to restatis (restates), take pen, a special eye vitamin recommended by my eye surgeon, have been for years . i guess years and years of contact lens wearing (soft) and lasik, and prk, and just general allergies have contributed, tho usually my allergies are more asthmatic type.

I've been wearing sunglasses, even indoors, and stay out of drafts.
this is just a PITA because of the surgery.

Hopefully this stage of the healing passes fast.

I have trouble with dry eyes and like Sundance have to be very careful with makeup.

After you posted about the gel beads, I started using them and of all the air fresheners, they are the only one I've found that don't bother my eyes. BTW, when the beads are used up, I put the jar in a closet/closed in area. They still give off a very gentle scent and all my closets smell fresh now.

ok, plastic surgeon's office was packed like sardines. not in oil, either. packed. he was more than an hour late and we were an hour early. need i say more.
i tell him the saga of the nurse cutting the gauze and the gauze trees in the wound and he changed the protocol to some kind of silver antibacterial thing. ok, nick now thinks i should do it and no nurse .NO WAY BUDDY. but the nurse doesnt have to come every day as this doesnt have to be pulled out of the wound daily, as it adheres, so when it's ready to come out, then it comes out. but I'm sure with showering it will come out. every other day for the nurse or i kill nick. i get the script for the stuff and ask him to write out for the nurse what to do because that's how she likes the info. no problem.

now we go down to the surgeon, and wait a bit and go in. no more weight on the leg, no walking dogs (i asked him, rather than fry him in front of the dr.) but nick asked if he can use the recumbent bike . yes, on the lowest tension. we now hope nick knows what the lowest tension means. we go back on the 15th, and then another X-ray and maybe a cane.

he can drive, if he goes in the car with the boot on, remove the boot, put on a shoe, drive, then put the boot back on. no stick shifts , not even the audi. forget the corvette.for now.

we get in the car, nick fouler than foul, wanted to use a cane now. puts his baseball cap over his face and stops talking.

needless to say, he's a cranky old thing.
and now, i am too because I'm not in the mood for cranky.

go downstairs and wait a bit for the surgeon . ok, no more pressure on the leg, he can drive (left leg) if he goes in the car with the boot, removes the boot, puts on a shoe, drives, and then puts the boot back on. no cane, buddy sorry. he asks if he can do the recumbent bike as my eyes are bulging ,yes bulging out of my head. even sandy eye. yes, he replies but with very little resistance. if only nick knows what that means.
now i jump in, but cant fry nick so i say "can he walk a dog?". now the dr looks at me like i am absolutely nuts, and says NO NO NO.

HOPEFULLY, he will listen to the doctor. We know he doesn't listen to you.

Sending more healing prayers for both of you.
