How did you enjoy the book?

I'm reading The War That Ended Peace by Margaret MacMillan. It's a history of the decades prior to the Great War (what we now call World War I). She describes how crises during those decades were resolved peacefully.

ETA: I haven't reached the description of how, and how quickly (less than seven weeks!), events spiralled out of control after Archduke Franz Ferdinands' assassination. I do know that he was one of the few people who apparently could have counselled caution.

I am currently reading Wild by Cheryl Strayed. Once I am finished with that (should be today), I will move onto American Sniper as well!

Listening to Hozier. Good Irish musician.

I'm just finishing "While I Was Gone" by Sue Miller. It's sort of a murder mystery, self discovery thing in which the fact the main character is a Veterinarian plays a minor role.

But the music, I am so, so pleased about the music. The Rhythm Sweethearts. A lady who sat at table with my Mum in her Long Term Care is one of the original Rhythm Sweethearts. Myrtle is 86 now, she must have been something of a rebel in a time when I'm sure there were no expectations of her other than that she would get married and have babies. Instead she was leader, MC and bass guitar in one of the first ever all girl Western bands. She gave me a CD copy of the only record they put out. There was a memorial service at the LTC last week and I made more copies of her CD, put the cover sheet, play list and the bit from the original album in too to give back to her so she would have nice copies to give out to other people. Wouldn't you know it? That very day the OH came home with the original LP which he'd found after much searching in Value Village. He paid about $1.00 (cause it was senior's day, LOL) and it's $200 on-line. It's in really good shape too, I wish I'd had it to copy onto CD from but I didn't have time to do that.

I just finished the book, "The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics" by Daniel James Brown. I didn't look back through this thread to see if anyone else mentioned it (sorry). It's non-fiction, not my typical choice, but it's very easy to read and I found it a really captivating story, some history leading up to WWII, good "heroes". Loved it.

I'm in the middle of "An Echo Through the Snow" by Andrea Thalasinos. I was in Goodwill and there it was, with two of my favourite topics, snow and dogs. Turns out it is about the history of Siberian Huskies and the Chukchi people of Siberia woven into modern day tales of sled dog racing. It has forwards by prominent dog magazines and people, like Patricia McConnell. Pretty easy reading, was about all I could handle yesterday with a migraine. The historical aspect makes it worthwhile.
