James Hellers Catch 22. I'm about 2/3 the way though, and it's hilareous!

I'm 2/3rds through Steven Pinker's "The Better Angels of Our Nature" which we're reading in an Evolution group I joined about 5 years ago. Pinker makes a fascinating case for there being gradually less wars and mass killings
in the world since WW-2.

I recently finished Ron Chernow's "Hamilton" -- a l--o--n--g book (slightly over 700 pages, IIRC) but it's a very
worthwhile read if you care much about the history of the American nation. I read it because I'd just previously
read the book (which includes the lyrics and many photos) of Miranda's musical "Hamilton" which he was inspired
to write immediately after reading Chernow's book. I can understand why -- if I had Miranda's talent and background,
I would, too. Our retired faculty group, KU's Endacott Society, has a "Great Books" group and I suggested we read
Chernow's "Hamilton" next and they agreed -- (I hope they don't impeach me). One of our members is urging us to
also include a few of Hamilton's "Federalist Papers" and I think we will.

A "progressive Christianity" reading group I'm in (we're largely Episcopalians but have some other denominations, too)
is currently reading Spong's "Why Christianity Must Change or Die." We read a chapter or 2 aloud (we go clockwise
around the table and each person reads the next paragraph) and then we discuss it either at the end of the chapter or
any point before that. We meet twice a month for 90 minutes, the 1st & 3rd Wed. afternoons.

OH! I forgot -- our play reading group in Endacott is about to read Arthur Miller's "All My Sons" and, since
I help lead it, I got a copy and read it. It's not a very "happy" play -- it's about various ways guilt is handled among family members and acquaintances.

Listening to Headhunters by Jo Nesbo. It's a mystery/thriller. A clever and elegant portrait of the dark excesses of our corporate culture as revealed through a desperate cat-and-mouse game between figures reaching for the top of the heap.
Reading I Let You Go by Clare MacKintosh. It's a clever psychological thriller. A friend of mine read it and said we needed to convene a "mini book group" so we can discuss it. I'm halfway through and loving it so far.
Listening to crickets outside and the mantel clocks' tick-tock.
Reading Stephen Kings' 'Bag of Bones', have on hold at the library 'Crash Course' by Chris Martensen.

Listening to Lucy softly snore.
Started reading “The Three-Body Problem” by Cixin Liu and figured I wouldn’t come close to finishing it before Mr Kleb had to return it to the library and decided to place a hold on it and have three weeks to read it at my leisure rather than read for a week, wait three weeks for the person who has it on hold to return it. I was captivated in the first few pages.
I haven't heard of those books or that author. I'll have to check into those. I'm usually on the waiting list for something at the library as well. Unless it's a new book, I can usually renew things for a total of 9 weeks. If I can't finish it in that time, I figure it's not going to happen. I've recently read the Memory Man series of 3 books by David Baldacci and the latest by CJ Box, Vicious Circle. Anyone who enjoys some espionage might want to look into a trilogy by Jason Matthews, Red Sparrow, which is about to come out as a movie, Palace of Treason, and there's a 3rd due out maybe next month, ?The Kremlin's Candidate. I've enjoyed the books a lot. I don't know if I want to see the movie and get Jennifer Lawrence stuck in my head as the main character.
In my car right now I'm tuned into the Billy Joel station that's temporarily being highlighted on Sirius radio.
smartrock I hadn't heard of him either until my brother tipped me. While I don't generally read science fiction the first book really grabbed me as is 'The Dark Forest'.
