    Suddenly Vegetarian?

In the last couple of years, I've somewhat lost my appetite for meat, especially chicken, which I was never really fond of anyway. I started to crave really tasty food like ethnic sauces. Also, spices, textures, and flavor.

I have decided that I will still eat meat if it is offered -- holidays, if I go to someone's house for dinner, work lunch where I don't have an option, etc. -- but if I have an option and when I cook at home, I'm nixing the meat. (Ironically, I feed my dogs raw!).

Does anyone have any great cookbooks or websites with super tasty, easy recipes? Especially simple items with yummy sauces. Thanks!

smittenkitchen.com has a LOT of vegetarian things. I usually eat vegetarian... I'm just not into meat. I also HATE cut up chicken in ANYTHING and refuse to eat it, but I'm a weirdo.

    I collect cookbooks.

Some of the classic cookbooks that are vegetarian are the Moosewood Restaurant cookbooks, Deborah Madison's The Savory Way and Lord Krishna's The Art of Indian Vegetarian Cooking. The Mark Bittman's cookbooks How to Cook Everything and, just released, How to Cook Everything Fast are good for vegetarian recipes as well but include meat.

I've always liked lean white meats, nuts and tofu for my protein sources so I think I know where you're coming from. The body wants what it wants. Go with it!

    Thanks!

My friend suggested Oh She Glows and I have to say, her recipes look AMAZING! Check it out!

I forgot to mention, I don't eat processed food -- especially sugar, bread, pasta, corn, etc. -- and not a lot of dairy. I am not afraid of butter and eggs though and I will do cheese for flavoring! I've been eating a whole food diet for about ten years.

Vegan With A Vengeance, a fave from my vegan days. I eat meat nowadays, but not that much. My dogs are on raw, and when I started feeding that way 3.5 years ago, it was the first time I ever perused the meat department at the grocery store, lol.

Mark Bittman also has How to Cook Everything Vegetarian, which my vegetarian child uses a lot. Both my kids have been vegetarian at one time or another. I find most recipes online and smittenkitchen is one I look at often also. I'll have to check out Oh She Glows.

I have a friend that is vegetarian but she is a strict vegetarian so not sure if this is the difference BUT she went to a restaurant once and told the waitress she was vegetarian and to make sure there was absolutely no meat in her food. Somehow meat got mixed in and my friend took a bite of it and it physically made her sick since she hadn't had meat in such a long time. Not sure how long you have gone without eating any meat but just keep that in mind when you do eat some meat in the future. I guess it can make you sick to re-introduce meat back into your system?
