Flute for me as well, starting in 4th grade. In the elementary schools I've worked in, kids still have vocal music and maybe instrumental music. My older kid started clarinet in 4th grade but we'd moved to another state before my younger one was in 4th grade and instrumental music didn't start until middle school there. Many years of money spent on piano lessons left me with still only rudimentary skills. Some people have innate talent, I guess, and I'm not one of them!

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

I have/had no musical talent whatsoever. I even had problems getting the hang of one of those plastic flutes I had to "master" as part of my "teaching music in elementary schools" course in college.
I can usually manage to use the radio and CD player.
