Your husband sure has varied speaking venues - he must be in great demand! I'd probably tell him to leave the Horrible geek jokes. at home though!

(I too missed the "a" in your thread title!!)

He does! I told him to put them all on his resume and he was really surprised. He didn't realize how many he'd done. Someone else just ducked out of two more talks at the conference in a few weeks and he's thinking of picking that one up. That would be five talks in two days. It's a good way to get his name out there though.

Hehehe...were you thinking of doing one of your beautiful cakes? You'd cause a prison riot if the inmates in the group got them and no one else did.

I should have mentioned, there is a dress code, as to what is not allowed. And also, a valid drivers license or other legal picture ID will be required.

Info on general dress code, and some other stuff related to visiting at the prisons:

    Visitors Dress Code

    State Correctional Facilities Visiting Policies

Although he's not technically visiting, this will give you a general idea of what to expect at the particular prison he'll be doing the coaching.

Not necessarily a cake but everyone needs some really good cookies. Or brownies.

Thanks. I really appreciate the information.

He should ask the prison administrators these questions. Every facility is different.

Generally - no phones, no cameras, no sharp objects including paper clips and staples. In fact he should bring as little into the facility as possible in terms of his personal effects.

Medium security in Illinois is pretty laid back. It is common to see inmates roaming freely within the walls without an escort. He should asked to be escorted where ever he goes by a correctional officer. In all likelihood they'll give him pretty specific instructions about what not to do, areas to avoid, etc. Ideally, medium security prisons are for people with non-violent convictions, however with nationwide over-crowding I wouldn't rely on that.

He went ahead and accepted the invitation. Sue's links were very helpful and he spoke again with the people from the larger organization. It's going to be a couple of months at least. They haven't set a date yet.
