I have a joke. I use OH, for Other Half. It was used on the first doggy forum I joined, the UK Champdogs, so I used it too. It's supposed to be gender neutral for those who want to maintain as much privacy as they can. Though after posting for a while it usually becomes clear what the gender of the poster is. The joke is, the term itself is a something of a give away. Only a husband can be an OH. A wife is necessarily a BH. The Better Half. Ok, I'll duck now.

Somebody here used DP, for Dear Partner, recently. To me a DP was a Displaced Person, a term common just after WW11 when Canada received many DP forced to leave their nation of birth. But it's a good acronym which is neutral for both the poster and their partner.

I use DH and depending on the context, you insert the correct definition of the "D".

There is a list of Board Acronyms on the grey bar at the top of the page.

I hate the abbreviations. Keyboard commandos fire off hundreds of thousands of words on various forms of social media but can't be bothered to spell out the people most important to them.

DS. Son. Wow, you saved a keystroke. Go you.

I agree. Does everything have to be "dear" in every sentence all the time? This isn't aimed at anyone, but it just makes me imagine the original poster (OP lol) to be a senior citizen always speaking so lovingly about their family members.
