    Put the Phone Down

When I go for a walk, it is to enjoy the fresh air, relieve some stress, and get me and the dog some exercise. Having said that, I guess I don't understand why people feel the need to be on their phones while on their walks.

I understand the single women with no dog wanting to be on the phone to not feel alone (sort of understand).

BUT this one lady was on the phone not paying attention to her 8 pound devil who was on a retractable leash that was on the opposite side of the sidewalk as its owner. I saw them coming but she had no clue we were. As we get closer, I jingle Oliver's leash to get her attention so she can reel her dog in as it is bee lining for my dog. She looks up and says, "Sorry" and then proceeds to yell "Happy come!" All the while not reeling in her dog. Happy gets within inches of Oliver who is just trying to get away from Happy. I just muttered under my breath and we kept walking.

Just leave the phone in the car like I do and enjoy your walk. I don't get it.

Its ridiculous. People are obsessed with there phones. I dont leave mine in the car, i do want it on me in case of an emergency, but its always in my pocket and never comes out. Maybe im slow but i couldnt manage the phone and dogs at the same time

I tend to people watch and the ones who bother me are the families eating dinner at a resturant. No one is talking to each other, no family time just everyone playing on a phone. Even younger kids who i dont feel are even old enough for a phone.

I have a coworker who refuses to put her phone down including on vacations with her family. Updates facebook every 5 minutes, that kind of crap. Ive asked her how are you even enjoying your husband and daughter if you never pay any attention??? Its some weird "look at me, look at me" thing, i know what she eats 3 times a day, every move she makes on her days off, yeh its that bad.

Sorry for my mini rant, phone use bugs the crap out of me, i find it rude when people are always on there damn phones

I use my phone as a pedometer. I also need the clock as I walk befor work so it keeps me on schedule.

I do do agree about excessive use. My husband tries. Tries......And Facebook? I post pics of my dog ha ha ha.

I do take my phone with me on walks, I do pull it out once in a while but usually to take a picture of something Hemi and i see on the trails. Also though I take it because of two reasons main reasons. If something were to happen to Hemi, like step on a piece of glass, which he has done before. I can call for help. I can't ask him to limp 2-3 miles back to the car. While I could carry him it would be rough going at his 95 lbs and dangerous for both. So I would always recommend taking it just in case. Just turn off the ringer. Also I use the GPS on the phone to log my walks which is required for Hemi's Trail dog and Pack Dog titles. Then there are 2 other reasons Hemi does letterboxing and geocaching as well. I need my phone to find those.

Oh but I do know what you mean by people always on their phone. I don't sit there talking but I see plenty on trails that are. I even see couples walking along a guy and girl holding hands walking the girls just talking away on her phone. The guy with a just shoot me now look on his face.

I always bring my phone with me whenever I go anywhere alone with Luna. I bring pepper spray and whistle too. I leave my phone in my pocket unless it's an emergency.

I seldom use my cell; the battery runs down more from disuse. I do take it on walks though for emergencies and have never had to take it out, thankfully.

So many people are glued to their phones. They are missing so much of the world.

I used to use my phone for the Run Keeper app but I am not diligent enough to use it on a regular basis so...I would keep my phone in my pocket if I have pockets at the time, if I don't then I leave it in the truck. I try and bring it with me just in case since I am walking my dog alone but sometimes it is just easier to leave it in the truck than try and carry keys, a phone, and a leash.

I heard on the radio this morning at trivia question. The question was: "The average woman under 25 spends 48 minutes a day on this" and the answer was "taking selfies". That to me is sad and ridiculous. Maybe young women need to spend more time leaving their phones home or in a pocket....

I do take my phone everywhere, but I don't really talk on it. I have a pedometer app and also to take pictures of Mocha It gives me a sense of security if I fell or something. But it's the distracted walking with dogs that drives me crazy! Or owners that have no control that let their dogs walk at the end of the leash and drag them along.

We were in Petsmart when Mocha was still a relatively little guy. There was this pit that was pulling so hard on the leash. We were teaching Mocha to walk nicely with the prong. The pit was puling the owners over and they both were grabbing onto the leash to control it. We tried to avoid them, but they caught up to us in line. They asked us about the prong and we told them the trainer there showed us how to use it and it's working beautifully for Mocha (who was walking and sitting very nicely, thank you). She said "Well, we don't want him to get used to the prong". She's saying this as he's pulling her over. Huh? Don't want to get your dog used to walking nicely? If you're against the prong, that's fine. The point is to train your dog to walk on a leash! Especially a dog so powerful they can pull you over ad drag you into oncoming traffic! Whew, vent over
